Local notes recount Memorial Day rites at Hopewell with speakers J W Adams and J W Graham, a flower tribute by girls, and a wreath placed on soldiers graves. Community members and visitors observed, honoring Confederate veterans and preserving the tradition of Memorial Day.
A linen shower was given Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 by Miss Clifford Burks for Miss Nell Graham whose marriage to Mr. John Burch of Inman takes place next week. After dominoes, refreshments were served and guests included Misses Nelle, Claude and Emily Graham, Bessie Smith, Laura Thornton, Nevada Lewis, Lizzie McGough, Lou Ella Perry and many others. The bride to be was showered with linen gifts including doilies table covers centerpieces handkerchiefs and collars.
The Fayetteville School will hold its commencement on Thursday and Friday nights the 28th and 24th instants with Prof. J E Mc Ree of Atlanta delivering the address. A declamation contest will award a gold medal. drills music tableau and recitations are listed.
Citizens of Brooks organize a new bank with a 25000 dollar capital. Directors include A Steinheimer J M Putnam BE W Dukes H B Banks N W Goble J H Jones Boykin R F Smith J B Woods Lee Boykin R H Henderson Arthur Digby and A T Crawford. Sam Boykin to be president Steinheimer vice president and Arthur Digby cashier. Opening planned by September 1.
Oak Grove reports attendance at the County Line singing convention and notes Sunday school guests from Ebenezer Union Grove Line Creek and Mount Springs. The superintendent proclaims the school the best in the county and invites A. O. Blalock and class to visit. Visits include Padgett Wilson Campbell Pollard, Will Brown, Couch family, and Kate Lander. Rev Mason of College Park to preach next first Sunday evening.
Mrs Cleveland of Fayetteville visited her daughter Mrs W T Adams and son Ambrose Cleveland near here last week. Mrs Loyd was seriously hurt recently. W M Ellerson and family visited Ma Ira White and family Sunday. Miss Amy Adams stayed with Miss Francis Adams. Vera Walker from near Hopeful visited Miss Bernice and Miss Mattie Mae Adams. Clyde Cleveland is on the sick list.

Several families travel to Atlanta and nearby camps, with updates on Mrs. Wilkins sickness and Hesper Thornton visiting Jessie King after a serious accident. The community reports rain delaying planting and a poor cotton crop prospect, with fishermen at Kite Lake and ripe watermelons at John Fowler’s.

Union Grove visitors stay with relatives. Roy Reeves kept a regular appointment down the road. Hopes rise for a new railroad through the community. Pierce Harper of Atlanta visited last week. Mamie Weldon spent Thursday in town.
