Georgia Governor Hardwick issued a proclamation making the use of the lash in state and county prisons unlawful with immediate effect. The move follows an Atlanta committee drive to end corporal punishment as unconstitutional, with the attorney general and prison officials aligning in support.

Fayetteville hosts a Fayette County teachers meeting on February 24. Superintendent L M Lester outlined six month school operation, tax reductions trigger borrowing, and urged Georgia Educational Association attendance. Committees studied classifying schools, planned a county contest for March 23, and a reading contest with walking relay for girls. A county wide bond issue for schools was supported. Luncheon and sewing exhibit showcased student training.
State College of Agriculture specialists visited counties to promote the projects. Horticulturist George Firor led pruning and spraying demonstrations. Farm engineer W E Broach covered broad terraces and land shaping for cultivation. Fertilizer expert L Vincent Davis reviewed the demonstration acre to be run by Murray Murphy in Fayetteville.
Banks of Fayetteville Woolsey and Brooks provide 550 egg settings to Poultry Club members and schools. Each member thirty eggs and a pullet are returned to banks in exchange. Club rules will guide participation. a countywide Poultry Show is planned as communities form clubs.
Georgia man J C Saville of Stillmore proposes ending corporal punishment in public schools after convicts and state prison camps were spared by Governor Hardwick. He argues students deserve equal consideration and awaits the governor’s return from Sandersville.
