Misses Graham Entertain With 42 Party At Fayetteville

A Fayetteville social page notes the Misses Graham hosted a stylish 42 party Friday night February 22. Decor featured red white and blue with a Liberty Bell motif. Guests enjoyed hot chocolate Nabisco wafers and a decorative prize for couples and gentlemen. Invitations listed many locals including Kate Cousins Lizzie McGough Hazel Alexander and W B Hollingsworth among others.

School House Burned at Sandy Creek

Last Friday afternoon the Sandy Creek school house was destroyed by fire caused by a coal of fire between the floor and hearth. Mr. Walker discovered the blaze but it had gained headway too quickly for the crew to control, and the entire building and contents were consumed. The structure was well built though it needed a ceiling. a caution to protect public buildings from fire.

Death of a Child in Turnipseed Family

Minnie Mae Turnipseed, five, died after a prolonged illness at two miles east of town. She was cherished by many friends and family. Funeral services were held Wednesday at noon at the local Methodist church conducted by Rev. J. D. Snyder.

Winona News Roundup of Local Visits and Incidents

Mr. Buddy McEachern of Fayetteville has been buying cattle. G. E. Raven plans track farming with cotton and corn. Ed Whitlock of Line Creek visited last Monday. Doc Landrum of Dundee passed Sunday en route to see a sick brother near Sandy Creek. Warm spell followed by a brief snow scare. Monday returned to summer warmth. Mrs. T. L. Loyd of Oak Grove spent Sunday with Sam Loyd’s family. Wilder Williford injured an eye at school last week. Miss Irene Parrott, recently ill, is improving rapidly. Neighbor Martha Ferrer of Stop died last week.

Rainy spring weather slows Sunday singing and local events. Miss Sarah McEachern returns to school at the Rock. Squire Ben Adams hosted at dinner for his eightieth birthday last Tuesday. Wyly Adams moves to a new house east of Union Grove. Earnest Duffy shows interest in the area. We wonder about the widows count. Rev. W. W. Walker visits from Atlanta. Mrs. Griffieth of Fayetteville visits relatives nearby.

Building Committee Travels to Atlanta for Parsonage Plans

The Building Committee of the new parsonage traveled to Atlanta last Wednesday and secured the architectural plans.

City Court Reports Record Year of Civic Service

Judge W B Hollingsworth states the city court had its most successful year with over 100 pleas and guilty verdicts, extensive civil business, all salaries paid, $600 turned to the county treasurer, no prisoners fed, and self sustaining with funds to the treasury. Solicitor Culpepper is praised for efforts in the past year.

Jury verdict in Jonesboro murder case uplifts manslaughter ruling

The jury convicts Will Lee of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Depot Agent White of Jonesboro. Judge Roan imposes a twenty year sentence, the maximum for the offense. White was fatally shot at the depot in Jonesboro shortly before Christmas.

Mrs Berry Johnson Dies at Home Near Here

On last Wednesday Mrs. Berry Johnson died at the home of her daughter seven miles west of here. She leaves three children including Rev. W. A. Johnson of this place. Her husband survives her. The News extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
