In Fayette County a column reflects on long lives and dramatic changes from 1820 era to modern times. It contrasts telephones cars and railways with rural life, extols farmers merchants doctors and educators, and celebrates harvest season family reunions and summer fruits as signs of progress and gratitude.
The annual teachers exam will be held at the courthouse on Friday August 8 and Saturday August 4. Friday's schedule includes primary license testing and first day work for renewal or general elementary licenses. The event also covers high school and supervisory license subjects.
The Line Creek church held its protracted meeting starting last Saturday led by Pastor C. Adams drawing large crowds. Local families from Macon Nixon Grove Senoia Fulton attended services with interwoven visits and dinners. Ice cream supper at Arthur Brown’s drew attendees on Saturday night.
Mr and Mrs Jim Wilder of Woolsey spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs J D Wilder. Mrs Bessie Goodman weekend in Griffin. Mrs H H Pierce returned from extended South Georgia trip. Mr John Plumer of Waco visiting brother H P Plumer and family. Frank Brown and Mary Mitchell attended singing at Whitewater. Ides Goodman visited Mattie Goodman. Albert Spurlin hosted by Lynn Plumer. The Goodman child ill. Hight Thompson weekend with mother Hand in Griffin. H P Plumer and John Plumer visited Frank Harper of Brooks. Winnie Winelle.

The Lake News lists visiting relatives and social visits across Corbin Kentucky and nearby towns. Mr and Mrs E S Ward hosted by J E Bowers with other visitors Claud Turney from near Brooks, G W Johnston from Atlanta spent weekend, George Cox visiting W F Cox near Fayetteville. Fairburn Girl Scouts camp here ten days. Protracted meeting starts first Sunday in August. Mrs J O A Turner died Monday morning.
Rev H V Smith preached two sermons at New Hope last weekend with a protracted meeting set to begin the fourth Sunday in August. Visitors include Miss Susie Amy Harper and Miss Edna Harper, with Lilian Gilbert and Bettie Gilbert hosting. Local residents Hubert Holt and Emory Brown from Atlanta spent time with relatives and friends as Luther Turner attended his mother’s Antioch funeral. Clyd Johnson from Atlanta was in town, and Mr and Mrs L A Thomas of Miami Florida visited Mrs R H Harper’s family.
Farmers still wrestle boll weevils though some areas report gains by the pests. Local social notes record Sunday guests from Newnan and Turin, visits to Atlanta and East Point, and a first Sunday singing event inviting all. An army travels on its stomach, Napoleon noted, as a line of local reflections ends.
County agent Mr. C V Shirley aided by Mr. F C Ward cotton specialist from the State College of Agriculture and others organize boll weevil control efforts for Fayette farmers. Ward says this is a critical time but a strong effort can yield a better crop than last year as prospects improve. Demonstration farms host meetings from Monday the 23rd to Friday the 27th with schedules including Blalock, Feltman, Busbin and more across multiple times each day.
