Fayette county residents will vote for local school trustees on Saturday before the last Sunday in July, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trustees are urged to serve with broad vision, fairness, and cooperation for public schools, as the future of the community’s children rests on capable leadership.
Fayetteville voters re elected mayor E C Seawright without opposition. Council members chosen include G W Wallace J T McCullum W R Jackson K W McElvaney and W V Holt. The piece praises their commitment to progress and service to the town.
In Fayetteville a quiet Fourth was marred when Howard Battle, intoxicated, accused another man of breaches of code. The rival drew a razor and slashed Battle, leaving both men injured and in ail.
At a Brooks board meeting the district reelected Miss Lillie Lee Elliott and Mrs. E P Shannon for the coming year. New teachers added include Miss Anne Lynn Stevens Miss Mavie Jones and Miss Bess Carroll. A principal has not yet been named.
Curtis Harper, visiting Brooks residents Mr and Mrs W N Stephens, was wounded yesterday by a pistol discharge. The bullet cut a long flesh wound in his leg but was not dangerous and he is expected to recover soon.
Within days three elderly women near Fayetteville have died. Mrs. Henry Williford of Line Creek, Mrs. Lacrosa Cox of Friendship, and Mrs. Archie An Cox of Ebenezer were all wives of Confederate veterans. Each woman lived to a ripe age and will be greatly missed in their communities.
The community enjoyed a Fourth of July fish fry with attendees from Atlanta and Fairburn. A seven month old girl Myra Love Jackson died July 6 and was buried at New Hope church with Rev G P Gary presiding.
