Aeronaut James K. Allen, who ascended at Providence on July 4, was picked up at sea 12 miles off Chatham Thursday morning after a 200 mile flight. His balloon drifted over Attleboro Brockton Provincetown and the outer Cape Cod coast before rescue by Francis V. Sylvia’s crew.
In a sensational session Hon. W. J. Flanders of Johnson county demanded the removal from the Georgia House of Professor Garnett Quillian, vice president of Wrightsville's Nannie Lou Warther Methodist Institute, claiming plots to murder him and accusing several ministers of libel and personal ruin. He vowed to stand responsible for his statements and threatened resignation if charges failed. The chamber adjourned amid the uproar with the incident dominating discussion.

The Post Office Department found an error in Oyster Bay so a recess appointment of Dallas Texas postmaster was issued in the name of the late William A O Leary. B A Robinson now stands to succeed him after O Leary died about a year ago. He has not been confirmed due to Senate opposition from Senator Culberson.
The Louisiana Board of Health rejected a Mobile Alabama report that yellow fever had appeared in New Orleans. Dr Irion stated the fever case was officially diagnosed as typhoid and no yellow fever is currently known anywhere in New Orleans.
The Chicago and Alton railroad and former officials John N Faithorn and Fred A Wann were convicted in U S district court in Chicago of illegally granting rebates to Schwarzschild Sulzberger Packing Co. Sentences were suspended pending a new trial. The claim held employees traveled free by refunds of transportation costs.
Union telegraph linemen and nonunion workers for Southern Bell battled in Savannah Saturday night. The melee injuring several, escalating to a riot with multiple arrests. Bell company officials arranged bond releases for the nonunion workers.
A Manila dispatch reports the United States transport Thomas ashore on a coral reef near Guam. General Wood seeks authority to send the transport Meade to remove passengers and cargo. The Thomas ran 100 feet onto the reef. all aboard are safe all hands carried no troops.
A Friday hailstorm in Valencia Spain and surrounding areas killed a child and injured about fifty people. Hailstones the size of oranges battered houses and roots of trees were torn up, driving residents to cellars. Crops suffered extensive destruction and widespread distress followed.
