The cotton market tightens as W P Brown of New Orleans faces spinners and dry goods jobbers who suspend business to resist famine prices. Mills plan to close as strikes depress demand, with Brown confident from 9 cent purchases and 13 cent market prices. Analysts warn of wild times before the new crop.
A 1920s labor report by Commissioner Carroll D. Wright warns that Japanese residents in Hawaii are rapidly increasing. He forecasts that Hawaiian born Japanese Americans will soon outnumber other races and may control local politics, noting Hawaii’s population around 150 000 with a majority Asian.
President Roosevelt departed Washington for Oyster Bay New York on Saturday morning aboard a quiet presidential train. Few people greeted the departure at the station and the journey was uneventful. Secretary Loeb said the president will host limited callers at Sagamore Hill this summer by advance appointment through Mr. Loeb.
Negro residents of Wilmington Delaware did not attend the planned mass meeting to protest lynchings. Officials urged influential Black men to deter the gathering to prevent further white black clashes in the vicinity.
Auditor James T. Petty reported to commissioners on a DC defalcation of about $73 000. Clerk James Watson is in custody charged with forgery and embezzlement. Petty says Watson concealed the scheme so it could not be readily discovered.

Capital items include Georgia supreme court turf ruling and a House tax cap vote. Prolific items also note train wrecks abroad, lynching reports, and political chatter in South Carolina and Kentucky.
The Morning Advertiser prints a statement by Colombia's consul general accusing U S pressure and intrigue over the Hay Herran treaty and canal deal. He claims opponents led by General Reyes could seize power to block the treaty, and warns Panama might declare independence with American arms and money.
Kentucky Governor Beckham explains his stance on Breathitt county matters denying power to declare martial law or court martial accused. He condemns northern yellow journals and accuses political opponents of exploiting the Breathitt murder case while denying pardoning 27 criminals from Breathitt county.
Knoxville report says United States Marshal Austin raised the Harvey Logan reward to 1 100, total 6 100 with existing 5 000 bounty. Judge Clark ordered an investigation into the escape begun Monday morning. Officials refuse details while Austin condemns jail authorities.
Senator Hanna chaired the dedication of a new Salvation Army headquarters in Cleveland Sunday. The citadel costs 200000 and will serve the city and vicinity. Hanna praised the Army and noted he would preach if he had time.
Five cotton gins arrived in San Juan Puerto Rico from the United States and will be installed at once. They mark the first gins to reach the island in forty years as cotton plantations now cover 11 000 acres and expansion continues weekly with San Juan named the center of this trade.
The Rev. Montrose W. Thornton of Wilmington’s First A M E church delivers a sensational Sunday night sermon. He denounces whites as demons of oppressive civilization and urges Negro self defense and vigilante justice to survive persecution. He cites Booker T. Washington and warns of constant danger for Blacks.
Harvey Logan the famed Montana train robber escapes Knox county jail in Knoxville Tennessee on Saturday by over powering a guard, stealing the sheriff’s horse, and fleeing toward the mountains. A reward of 500 dollars is offered, and a posse pursued but found no trace the next day. The case prompts a federal inquiry by Judge C D Clark and U S officials.
Adjutant General Murray issued orders in Jackson Kentucky to expand military powers. The provost marshal is to report to City Judge Cardwell. If rights or property are violated troops may be used to the limit of authority. A Hotchkiss gun was placed on the courthouse square.
Several hundred Charleston workers walked out Monday as a labor dispute between the building trades council and employers erupts. All trades except phinters electricians and white painters joined, with recognition of the union as the central issue, wage and hour talks likely in settlement negotiations.

A mob abducted three Black men from Newton jail in Baker County Georgia early Friday, murdering George McKinney Garfield McCoy and Wiley Anette for the death of white farmer F. S. Bullard near Peace. The incident occurred about a mile from Newton, the county seat, and 21 miles south of Albany.
