Yew trees are cited as the oldest natives with ages over 2000 years, far surpassing oaks at about 1500 years. Chestnuts reach around 800 and ash trees may live about 300, highlighting the remarkable longevity of yews among common species.
Atlanta special reports Georgia leaders urge the value of home gardens for 1919 food supply. President Hastings cites US Department of Agriculture figures valuing last year’s home garden vegetables at 350 million dollars, urging continuous cultivation to cut store bills and hedge against cotton price uncertainty.
