Sunday S S Celebration Highlights County School Pageantry
The Annual Sunday School Celebration was held Friday with attendees from across the county and neighboring areas. W T Davis of Texas gave opening prayer, Judge Hollingsworth delivered welcome remarks, and S E Speer offered a response. Washington area schools Oak Grove Lisbon Bethany Sandy Creek Fayetteville Methodist Fayetteville Baptist and Mayetteville Methodist performed. The afternoon featured banner contest with four schools, and officials praised the order and spirit of the event.

Veterans meet for quarterly session elect officers and delegates
The Paul J. Seems Camp of Confederate Veterans met at the courthouse to elect officers for the year and delegates to the Augusta state reunion in October. Officers named include Farr, Graham, Stephens, Ward, Dor sey, Lewis, Carter, Bennett, Busbin, Weldon, with Hightower Reeves and Lewis as delegates and alternates. An address by Hon. J W Culpepper followed, praised by all. They plan to meet again in Fayetteville on the second Wednesday in November.

The Rock reports a protracted meeting closing last Friday with 19 conversions and 2 by letter, the greatest church addition in years. Union Grove hosted baptisms at Bennett's pond and many youths attended, while Misses Emma Milam Myrtis Stephens and Ernest Mann visited near Union Grove on Sunday. Mrs Reid and her son from Merriwether county stayed with T A Webb, and Mrs Buchannan of Red Oak visited the families of Jones and Rivers. A lightning death occurred at railroad camps nearby Monday evening. Erastus Whitlock and brother Wittlock, ill but improving, were guests.
