A gathering at JL N Overholtser’s homestead showcased a new gas engine irrigation plant using a 10 HP engine and a Whirlpool pump. The system irrigates via ditch levels at 20 and 50 feet, testing showed strong water flow with potential to irrigate orchards, especially peaches, with low capital and quick payback.

U S railroads forecast $98 million in steel rail purchases this year with a record demand driving new construction and urgent track upgrades. Sugar City dispatch reports the Lockhart Livestock Company will begin weekly shipments of fat sheep and lambs to Kansas City and St Joseph. The firm has housed about 30 000 sheep and lambs and 4 000 cattle at two nearby feeding plants. With mild weather the stock has prospered and is market ready. Feeder profits are expected to exceed one dollar per sheep.
