Gas Engine Irrigation Demonstration Near Town

A gathering at JL N Overholtser’s homestead showcased a new gas engine irrigation plant using a 10 HP engine and a Whirlpool pump. The system irrigates via ditch levels at 20 and 50 feet, testing showed strong water flow with potential to irrigate orchards, especially peaches, with low capital and quick payback.

Southern Pacific Expands Coal Lands in New Mexico and Colorado

A Denver dispatch reports the Southern Pacific Railway Company acquired about 1000 acres of coal lands in San Juan County New Mexico and near Durango Colorado for 156000 dollars. Mayor McConnell arranged the deal, with Wood Morgan of Durango selling Ridge's Basin land in La Plata County to the company for 40000 dollars.

Record Steel Rail Orders Push Railroads to Expansion

U S railroads forecast $98 million in steel rail purchases this year with a record demand driving new construction and urgent track upgrades. Pennsylvania orders 43 000 tons raising its 1906 total to 222 000 tons costing $6 216 000. Estimated yearly total reaches 3 500 000 tons, 500 000 more than 1905. Lake Shore New York Central and western lines report similarly large orders.

Lockhart Livestock to Ship Fat Sheep to Kansas City and St Joseph

Sugar City dispatch reports the Lockhart Livestock Company will begin weekly shipments of fat sheep and lambs to Kansas City and St Joseph. The firm has housed about 30 000 sheep and lambs and 4 000 cattle at two nearby feeding plants. With mild weather the stock has prospered and is market ready. Feeder profits are expected to exceed one dollar per sheep.
