Civilizing the Navajo at Shiprock Agency and School

The San Juan Indian Training School and Agency at Shiprock New Mexico, begun in 1904, expands into a six block campus with agency and school buildings. It features stone and adobe residences, workshops, dormitories, a large brick barn, and plans for a four room office, acetylene lighting, a 13 000 cubic foot water reservoir, and a new hospital wing as Indians, under white supervision, build roads, ditches, and power lines.

Territorial Board Raises 1906 Rail Valuations Across Lines

The Territorial Board Of Equalization announced 1906 rail valuations with roughly a $1,000,000 total increase. Major jumps occurred on Santa Fe Pacific machine shops at Albuquerque and on several main lines including New Mexico and Arizona, Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific with per mile rates rising to reflect higher assessed values.

Death of Hon Pedro Perea Former Delegate in Bernalillo

Former New Mexico delegate Hon Pedro Perea died at his Bernalillo home from acute gastritis last Wednesday, aged 72. Born in Bernalillo County in 1852 to Spanish settlers, he served three terms in the territorial legislative council and backed the Santa Fe railroad. In March he was named state insurance commissioner by Governor Otero and held the post since.
