Elgin Route Residents Report Various Local Trips
R C Baker of route 2 went to Chickasha on business while O H Putney of route 3 traveled to Lawton. Metts family of route 1 visited Elgin, and Roger Patterson with Marvin Murray of route 1 went to Chickasha for a short visit. Mrs C H Pu of route 3 returned from Cyril, and Mra Rehwalt of Douglas visited the Willhite home. An unusual hail storm damaged a gait and lightning killed a horse team on route 2. A cyclone briefly touched down at C Baker’s home, flipping a chicken house without harming the main buildings, and several trees were uprooted.

Leg Broken When Vine Breaks While Climbing Tree
Clarence Dolezal, son of Frank Dolezal living east of town, broke his right thigh about six inches below the hip on Sunday night while climbing a tree to hang a swing. He fell six to eight feet after the vine he held broke and is resting as well as could be expected.

Robbery at O H Putney Home Near Town
The Putney residence west of town was burglarized Sunday morning while the family attended church. Two tourists seen in the area are suspected as they were in sight when the family left and found the door unlocked. Stolen items include a razor silverware a diamond ring other rings a sugar bowl and eatables. the sugar bowl was recovered at the bridge west of the house.

Elgin Holds Sterling To Short Stop in Rain
Elgin ball team traveled to Sterling Saturday for a balk game. Only 1 1/2 innings were completed before rain cleaned the field. Sterling led 1 0 after the first inning and again scored in the first half of the second. Elgin tied with a score of 2 to 1 in Sterling’s favor as Sterling batted twice and Elgin once, leaving the game effectively tied.

Passengers Ventilated During Warm Northbound Ride
East bound passengers near Bigin reported broken glass on the north side as a hail storm struck the train at Altus. Settling the ride in heat, travelers stuck heads out windows while ventilation was blamed for the poor conditions and no coach changes were made.

Have Returned. Will Ballou and family came in overland Sunday from where they have been living over in the Choctaw country and expect to remain here. At Fort Sill the G A R and Spanish War Veterans gather at the cemetery gate to decorate graves.
