New gas line option at the Bowser store debuting with better fuel access and same price. The shop continues selling coal oil at 8 cents and offers a broad line of hardware implements and furniture.
Elgin town team defeated a Cyril team 86 to 8 Saturday at Temple hall. Cyril players were delayed by work with 80 substituted. five locals played as observers and Henry Hasenbeck officiated briefly. The game featured rough play and a sprained knee near the end, with P R Bennett acting as referee.
Two Lawton drug stores were shut by injunction after a court of inquiry into the death of a soldier who killed himself while intoxicated.
Elgin designates Friday and Saturday, April 2 and 3, as general clean up days. Citizens should burn burnable trash by then and pile cans for easy loading. The town board will haul away piled rubbish. notify the undersigned with items to haul. Dead animals should be burned or buried. Dr. L H Hilsmeyer urges participation for public health.
The north Comanche County singing association will hold a singing convention at Sterling next Sunday all day. Andrew Knowles the president said new clauses will be represented and Prof Stewart of Frederick president of the state association will be present. He is a noted singer and may organize relapses in the locality.
Arrangements are underway for a track and field meet in Elgin on Saturday April 10 with a possible follow up in Lawton in May. Rural schools in the NE district are invited to compete for prizes in events including sprints jumps shot put pole vault relay and team contests for boys and girls. Winners may represent the school at Lawton. A full program and prize list will appear in the next issue.
A reader identified as T. M. Jeffords envelopes a $1 check to the editor, praising the paper’s quality and ads. The letter expresses trust in merchants and the school’s principal while noting interest in school notes and athletic coverage.
Sam Mitchell a resident near Elgin since about two nine ago married Martha Medlund of Walters in Lawton with Justice Armstrong officiating. The couple will reside on his farm east of Fletcher.
The Old Reliable offers 18 cents per dozen for eggs in dry goods next Saturday April 1 1915. L. C. Coffin owner invites ladies to bring eggs and be paid in dry goods.
Mrs. Anna Reich held the lucky number 1463 among the eggs given away with each dozen and received eight dollars in cash. Clara Dillberg held the number that drew the doll.
E Stone attended the literary exercises Friday and at the close offered $1 in merchandise as a prize to the scholar who would perform best in the next literary exercise.
The report notes Prines and Sarsel of the Stony Point district collecting the most eggs, with Mugsy also prominent. L. M. CTenan secured the division prize, according to the sparse readable lines.
Sheriff Richardson rode the 11 23 train through Elgin today to McAlester with Everett McPherson the former Elgin Bank cashier. He had been sentenced to six months for forgery and now received one year more for a later forgery count totaling one year six months. Further actions on other charges remain uncertain.
Elgin gin processed 15389 bales this season, up from 1024 last year, a gain of 316 bales. Farmers hauled cotton from nearby territory as prices fell, with many choosing local or nearest gins and storing cotton due to low prices. If prices had been as high as January, Elgin might have seen about 3000 more bales.
