Record shows tax save figures under T. B. Orr's tenure including savings in county attorney costs, witnesses and jurors in criminal court, and fines and forfeited bonds. Notes totals saved, with amounts from 1912 to 1914 and a push for a second term. Political advertisement urges voters to support.
Democratic candidate Joseph A. Dickson seeks the county superintendent post in a marked campaign. A self made, progressive former Faxon principal with three terms at Faxon schools, he highlights prizes won by his students and strong endorsements from educators in Faxon and Edmond.
Apache Oil Co has erected a derrick on the Joe Herber farm northwest of Elgin and is drilling for oil. They ordered a car load of coal and are proceeding vigorously, signaling that Elgin may soon be on the oil map of the state.
A tent meeting in Elgin led by Rev. Shipman of Oklahoma City closed Sunday after nearly three weeks with strong scripture knowledge and fluency. An arbor meeting near Stony Point schoolhouse, led by Rev. Rock of Apache, ended Sunday with five conversions. The Apache Gospel Team and Elgin Gospel Team assisted in recent services. Rev. Rock plans a Chandler schoolhouse meeting next Sunday and another at Beaver Bend around August 15.
Lawton closes voter registration at 6 o'clock Saturday evening. About 1700 people are registered to vote on August 4, with 1235 Democrats, 66 Republicans, 21 Progressives, 11 Independents and 66 Socialists. An estimated 150 to 200 women are among the registrants.
State Senator candidate Ollie M. Morris of Duncan, representing a district including Comanche Cotton Jefferson and Stephens Counties, is praised by E E Glasco and Judge Henry Furman for faithful service to the state and counties. Supporters cite his push for moral uplift, economy, and reforms. Bits show actions by Morris include combining county offices and increasing penalties for public gambling, and granting counties authority to vote on township government.
A local notice urges voters to support J. M. Haynes in the upcoming election, pledging a square deal for all citizens and stressing commitment to public interests and honest governance.
C M Wolcott brought in an ear of corn eleven inches long and nine inches in circumference grown on the bottom land southeast of Elgin, the garden spot of the county. G W Wade lives about ten miles west of Elgin and reports two stalks with four ears apiece. How many more such ears he has is not known, but he also has good bottom land.
