High School Girls Boycott Bad Boys in Dodge City

In Dodge Kan on January 9 a group of about forty high school girls formed the Good Habits Club to ban tobacco alcohol swearing gambling and card playing by boys at the school. The ultimatum was delivered to the boys who respond with mixed defiance and acceptance while leaders promise steadfast methods to enforce the plan amid looming events for the year.

Examinations for Indian Service Teachers Scheduled

Examinations for teachers in the Indian Service will be held February 4 by the civil service commission at Ardmore Enid Guthrie Muskogee Melleater Oklahoma City. Open to both men and women with a bias toward female applicants with musical ability. Last year 29 males and 57 females were appointed. Salaries range from 300 to 29 per annum for ten months with room and board provided. Full details available upon application to the Civil Service Commission.

Humphries sale draws Fletcher resident for county race

Commissioner J A Collier of Fletcher attended the Humphries sale and met friends. The editor notes his announcement as a Democratic candidate for the eastern district County Commissioner in the August primaries. Collier Bros. Hardware Co. has operated in Fletcher since 1907 and his business success argued to qualify him for public service.

The new school law effective Jan 1 1914 makes the county treasurer custodian of district funds. The county treasurer will pay warrants issued by the action district clerk against the district funds.

Surprise Social Honors Dr. Gamble Before Fletcher Move

About 125 neighbors gathered at Dr. J F Gamble's home last Wednesday to bid him farewell before moving to Fletcher. The evening featured social chatting, games, vocal and instrumental music, and refreshments of oysters and cake. Rev W E G Humphries presented a gold watch as a token of esteem. the doctor thanked friends and joked about both friends and enemies aiding his success. The home was decorated with ferns and flowers, weather was fine, and the event highlighted community bonds. The editor missed the gathering while preparing the weekly news bulletin.

Property Sold Well at Humphries Sale Crowd Fills Roadside Yard

A large crowd attended Rev. W B Humphries sale with teams lining both sides of the road for about a quarter mile. Most property brought good prices. A sow with piglets sold for 20 dollars, 22 hens at 60 cents each, four Jersey heifer calves at 16 dollars each, cows up to 60 dollars, and a four year old horse mule brought 160 dollars.

Soldier rides back from Lawton after train nap at Ft. Sill

A Ft. Sill soldier alighted in town Friday morning and hired a rig to return to the post. He claimed to have boarded the early train at Lawton and slept through Ft. Sill, saying he had been on duty two nights and had spent Thursday night in Lawton, with the State Poultry Show at Enid slated for January 26.

A Useful Present Generates Cents For Hawks And Rats

On Christmas day Frank Hunt, son of W C Hunt, got a trap as a gift. His father offered 10 cents per hawk and 5 cents per rat. In two weeks he caught 35 hawks and 14 rats, earning 3 30 from hawks and 8 from rats, totaling 4 20. If continued, the southeast of Elgin may soon be hawk free.
