A broad report lists numerous global incidents from fires and earthquakes to political upheavals. It notes the miners’ federation canceling a planned general strike in South Africa and details fatalities in Scotland, aviation accidents near Berlin, Formosa headhunters, and political and legal developments across several nations.
The state land commissioners ordered the sale of 285 876 acres in Cho Arron county starting September 22 through October 10 and 182 874 acres in Texas county beginning October 14 to October 29. Fourteen Shawnee township blocks totaling about 150 000 acres in Charron county are excluded for minerals. Purchases require 60 dollars down with 40 annual installments at 5 percent interest. Unimproved lands offered without resident preference and no compensation for lessee improvements.
Governor Lee Cruce joined the first spike ceremony for the Ringling railroad as it starts westward from Ardmore. President Hannon of the road and J. S. Mullen led the event with a steel rail auditorium laid on the track. Speeches followed by Governor Cruce President Hamon J. R. Pennington and County Judge Freeman.
Imperial potentates and about thirty other prominent Shriners will attend the joint ceremonial of Oklahoma's three Shrine temples in Tulsa on November 20. The event, a major statewide gathering, will expand the Shrine presence in the state capital of Oklahoma.
An ordinance to tax imitation beer sales was presented to Shawnee council, drawing strong opposition from Alderman Farria who decried unequal treatment of drinks. Local dealers sell imitation beers at 26 cents per bottle, and Mayor Atearma believes they should pay the privilege.
Four thousand marchers led a 24 block parade as Lawton swelled to about 30 000 residents during the Lawton Throngé three day celebration marking the opening of the Kiowa Comanche country near Fort Sill in 1901. About 1500 were 1901ers with 800 Fifth Field artillery troops from Fort Bill and 1000 Kiowa and Comanche riders and local car clubs.
Delaware county records and office equipment were moved from old Jay to New Jay under District Judge Pitchford. The transfer, done without resistance, settles long running county seat issues. The records are stored in a fireproof building, with earlier stolen items also relocated and secured.
A farmer, Gleason, believing a burglar inside his home shot and killed his 12 year old son. The boy had stepped outside for shade then returned and attempted to enter the house, prompting the fatal shot. In Cornish, an oil boom began as Red River Chilling Company struck a well near Carter Stephens county, yielding 160 to 200 barrels with 30 barrels pumped before any surface drop.
John Lind arrives in Mexico City as personal representative of President Wilson. Officials say no policy steps will be taken until Lind studies the situation. Lind acts as on the ground eyes and ears while avoiding direct public stance and aligns with the administration’s peaceful settlement aims. Congress meets with Wilson and Bryan but Lisbon stance remains unchanged.
In Bucharest celebrations marked the accord with flags, firing, bells, and marching bands. A noon te deum at the cathedral honored the event, attended by King Charles and Queen Elisabeth at the royal conference.
