In a late evening clash at the W. W. 16 & Co general store two robbers trapped by a citizen posse fired nearly 100 shots. One suspect was seen fatally wounded, leaping into weeds. the other escaped through a doorway and fled into darkness, with the chase continuing as the scene moved to Page Ten.
A building under construction for Milwaukee machine shops in Miles City Montana was blown down Wednesday night by a forty mile gale that blew for two hours. The storm left the site wrecked and caused structural damage in the area. Local workers reported the gusts were the strongest seen in years and no injuries were immediately reported.
Whitefish Montana August 27 news of rich assays from Micho brothers prospects sparked a mining rush in Flathead county. Dingley, son of Nelson Dingley, Maine congressman and Dingley tariff author, publishes a Kalamazoo newspaper and is a noted orator and writer of Ministers of Socialists. In New Jersey, socialist fellowship meeting features Rev James Smiley and Rev Maurice Thomer with talks on Christian socialism and social reform.
New York Aug 27 Gov Charles EB Hughes says he will empanel a special grand jury to hear evidence in the Hains brothers murder case and will select a judge. District Attorney Darling of Queens reports the jury will convene likely around Sept.
New York on August 27 the New York stock exchange committee began an investigation into the extraordinary business dome on the exchange last Saturday. The inquiry led to the suspension of A. Brown & Co. and will entail at least forty or more members and outsiders being called before the committee. The probe is expected to last at least two weeks.
Kansas City reports William Jennings Bryan and entourage arriving from St. Louis to be greeted by Democrats. The party will depart at 10:40 for Topeka where Bryan plans to speak on Guarantee of Bank Deposit. Theo A Bell accompanies Bryan on the tour.
A Batavia telegraph from President Roosevelt to Archie D. Sanders, internal revenue collector at Center Bay, warns against involvement in local politics. It states no noncompliant officers will remain and demands resignation if orders are not followed. Sanders reportedly replied that the telegram was received and conditions complied with.
Wrathpen aged 27 of Saskatchewan announced at a Rosthern banquet that the government will purchase the Bell Telephone system in the province. The move aims to clear the Bell system from western Canada, marking a major restructuring of regional communications.

Norman Thetford of Miles City was fatally shot early yesterday by piano player Hosp at Frankie Blair’s in the red light district. Hosp, who faced Thetford after a quarrel, fired four shots with an automatic revolver, two hitting Thetford in the stomach. Thetford died at hospital. Hosp was arrested but won't disclose details per his attorney. In Topeka, William J. Bryan campaigns on bank deposit guarantees with marching Democrats arriving for support. In Rome, Papal Games for jubilee feature Catholic nations competing, with the pope awarding trophies. Ireland sends a large delegation aiming for top honors.
Manager Habner of the Gardner hotel reports the new house will be ready for guests by January 1. Mrs Banner and her daughter plan to enroll in the local high school on opening day, as parents desire. Fargo expects to welcome first class hotel business with no apologies.

Col W F Vilas pioneer Wisconsin settler and former Postmaster General under President Cleveland died at 10 45 am in Madison following a second paralysis stroke. He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage earlier on July 20 at his Madison home.
Burt Burton, aged worker in a threshing crew, was run over by a belt platform rig near Aberdeen on August 27. Supposed asleep, he fell under the wheels, suffered a crushed head, and died instantly. Coroner ruled accidental death. body sent to Rock Creek for burial with local parents.
Most Fargo G A R members heading to national encampment in Toledo will depart tomorrow for Minneapolis to join a special car with other state members. Col E C Gearey Sr and wife plan to leave tomorrow morning along with Dr B J Hill and wife Colonel Cummings and wife and W C Laizure leaving tomorrow evening. An additional delegation from western Minnesota will travel from Duluth to Toledo via the lake.
Estella Botts an inmate of Madame Massey’s resort was arrested charged with stealing 96 dollars from Gottfried Lundin a Moorhes man. The incident began when Lundin allegedly took a friend along and left, the friend waiting outside for about ninety minutes. Upon return the door was opened and the friend asked Lundin if he had the money. The woman reportedly claimed the money, saying she would keep it to prevent Lundin from losing it.
McAlister Oklahoma Aug 27 30 dead bodies were removed from Hatleyville mine east of here after a disastrous explosion yesterday. The last body was taken out early this morning and authorities believe all victims are accounted for. Nineteen miners and five mules were found together in a mine entrance where they headed toward the fire.
New York dispatch reports Norman M. Mack chairman of the Democratic National Committee returning from the West to set up East Coast headquarters and inaugurate the campaign east of the Alleghenies with the New York office to open on Saturday. Baron Makino Nobuaki is expected to become the new Japanese ambassador to London, succeeding Count Komura.
Augusta daily reports rapid clearing of flooded streets in Atlante after eight feet of water inundated main business and residence areas. Communications were cut, trains halted within a mile radius for two days, yet property loss appeared limited and recovery underway as AP HQ established outside city limits.
Reports from Augusta indicate the international Exposition scheduled for 1912 is postponed for five years due to rising water. The Augusta area suffered a severe fire that wiped out the Nixon Grocery Co. wholesale warehouse the Georgia railroad warehouse and multiple cars on the Southern Railway in Hamburg South Carolina. Floodwaters reached eight feet in the business district as thousands fled. Reports indicate about a dozen drowning deaths, with one confirmed by mid afternoon. The Charleston and Western Carolina bridge at Sandbar Ferry was washed away along with the Georgia side approach to a North Augusta bridge.

In Ellendale on August 27 a quarrel between Cicero Gainer, a colored man, and Raymond Edling, a farm hand, led Gainer to shoot Edling in the right leg as Edling allegedly attacked with an iron bar. Gainer fled toward the James River but was captured and jailed in Ellendale after Deputy Sheriff Huttman brought him by automobile. Edling’s wound was reported not dangerous.
The National Wool Growers Association adopted a plan to appoint a six member committee led by president Fred W. Gooding to work with state and regional commissioners. The group will coordinate with officials from Oregon, Washington, Utah, Texas, California, Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho and other states to select a central storage point and oversee related details.
