Andrew J Edwards died at his Humboldt home at seventy one. He served in the 48th Indiana Infantry and later in the reserve corps. Funeral held in Humboldt with old soldiers present. August Henry Dorste died in St Joseph aged 41. He had been in Arago and Rule and served in Missouri cavalry. W L Ratekin born 1835 Ohio died 1906 at Rule after long farming life. He leaves a large family and connections in Kansas and California. Funeral at Rulo with Baptist and Holiness church rites.

County Board Exercises Routine in Clerk’s Office
County board convened Tuesday in the county clerk’s office and began business. Much time was spent approving accumulated claims since the last meeting. A $100 appropriation was made to aid the Farmers Institute in the city next month. Arrangements were made to send Dr. Scott Jr. to the old soldiers home, as a member of Company 1, Regiment 14, Illinois Cavalry. The board expects to finish by Saturday. full proceedings to appear in the next issue.

Freight train wreck near Howe delays routes
Early Friday a freight train on the M. FP. road derailed near Howe, the station beyond Stella. Six or seven cars left the tracks as passenger trains were held up, but crews cleared the wreckage by afternoon and traffic resumed.

Damage Suit Settled In Philadelphia Trial
Miss Mariel 8 Smiley, stepdaughter of Conductor George Smiley, settled a $50,000 damage suit against the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railway Company for $16,000 in Philadelphia courts. The wreck occurred last November on the railway system. she is fifteen years old and resides in Philadelphia with her uncle William G. Conkwright.
