The library board plans to install a number of new books soon with a careful selection. This institution is highly valued by Falls City residents for its benefit and pleasure to the community.
The board of supervisors will convene next Tuesday at the court house to finish the year’s work and prepare for the new board. This will be the last meeting of the old board after which their term ends. The board has transacted much important business during their term.
Under the Living Rosary society at Rule Nebraska the events run November 27 28 and 29 1906. Tuesday night hosts a dance Wednesday night a musicale and dance and Thursday night a dance with best music each night. Dinner will be served Thanksgiving Day from 12 to 6 o'clock. All are cordially invited. COMMITTEE.
The Salem Sentinel urges better roads noting Falls City approaches resemble pavement and that improved highways bring substantial merchant benefits. The piece calls for towns including Salem to take road improvements as a matter of self defense and progress.
Southeast Nebraska Telephone Co announces completion of a new copper toll line offering direct connections to all Nebraska points and St. Joseph Kansas City Atchison and Topeka. The firm reports extensive line improvements and a large crew of linemen. A complimentary invitation for a talk over the line was received through secretary KE. H. Towle.
Antoine Sebastian, 19, widower with seven month old twins, traveled from Albany Georgia to Table Rock Nebraska after his wife died. He reached Union Depot Kansas City on Tuesday en route to his brother's home in Table Rock to aid the infants. Sebastian wore scant clothing and endured privations to feed the children. Mrs Shull the depot matron and officials provided food and some clothing. Mrs Downs lies seriously ill at her Kansas City home.
Bode posted a $3,000 bond and plans to take the case to the Supreme Court. The hearing there is expected to be at least forty days away.
The play My Wife's Family played to a large audience Monday evening at Gelling theatre. The all around company maintained the show’s merit with clever acting and pleasing specialties. Perry and Appleton particularly stood out in the latter work.
The new three acre lake near the brick yard southeast of town is nearly finished. Two large springs supply pure water for ice, and a substantial amount of dirt has been moved to shape the site this past week.
At the home of Mrs. Harford southwest of Nemaha a full grown wild cat was killed one night last week. Marty Harford fired on the marauder after a ruckus at the hen house, and the animal measured thirty three inches from nose to tail. Auburn Republican.
The Clerk of the court compiles a complete record of the last term while the Treasurer and assistants handle taxes. The County judge manages marriages and routine work, the Recorder's work appears elsewhere, and the Clerk recovers from election duties. The election expenses statement is on file.
Falls City has added extensive street and sidewalk improvements this season. Mayor Barrett and Street Commissioner Leopold lead a project praised by property owners for new cement and brick walks. The city’s appearance is improved with balanced work across neighborhoods, and residents expect a solid winter.
The Falls City Tribune argues for a local cold storage plant to preserve apple and poultry crops, reduce losses to commission men, and support a nearby vinegar factory. The Barada drug store of Arthur Nixon and contents were destroyed by a fire at 2 o clock in the night. The loss is fully insured by Cleaver and Sebold of the same town. The origin of the fire is unknown and the flames were discovered too late to save any stock.
Mrs. Mary Hofer aged 71 years 2 months 22 days died at her Falls City home on Sunday November 1 1906. She leaves seven children seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mineral services were held at 10 o clock Tuesday morning Rev Manshardt officiating interment in Steele cemetery. Helen McCarthy widow of the late Wm P Myers aged 60 years 7 days died in Falls City November 7 1900. Four children survived. funeral from residence November 12 at 4 p m Rev W T Cline officiating. interment Steele cemetery. The Myers family had lived in Pennsylvania Michigan and Falls City.
C W Marlin, editor and proprietor of the Johnson County Tribunal in Tecumseh, hands the plant to successor C W Pool on indebtedness. Pool held a $3000 mortgage. Marlin plans settlement when funds come in. Pool, seeking to sell the plant soon, will return to managing Tecumseh’s independent telephone company. Marlin returns to Audubon Iowa to act as assistant postmaster. Mrs Julia Hall and others attended Larry Hall’s wedding from Verdon last Sunday.
A Sunday afternoon ceremony at Major Keeling’s residence united George KE Hall and Miss Jessie Barry in matrimony with Rev. W T Cline performing the ring ceremony. The bride wore white and the couple received elegant gifts before a luncheon. they will reside on North Main Street.
A party of six hunters led by John Oswald and including Albert Bentley George Prater Clifford Wahl George Hossack and Fred Whitton encountered a runaway on the return from a hunting trip near the Will Holt farm west of town. The horses were frightened and the hunting wagon broken but no injuries or dangerous outcomes occurred.
Last Friday morning workmen fixing the roof at the Wilson grocery store had a kettle of tar ignite. The black smoke prompted a serious fire scare, but the alarm proved false once the cause was identified as tar burning steady.
Complete official returns from all county precincts show victory for the entire legislative ticket. The Central Committee thanks precinct committeemen for earnest steady work supporting Republican principles. Falls City reports November weddings continue with E. G. Whitford returning from a state trip.
Floy Grinstead and Sallie Schoenheit hosted the Whist club at Mrs John Gilligans home on Tuesday evening. A china shower honored Miss Barry at the Keeling residence last Thursday. Suzane Brecht entertained the Junior Society at the Presbyterian church with forty guests. Sorosis met Nov 14 with Mrs Banks. a parliamentary drill and talks on Words and the Legal Status of Woman in Nebraska inspired attendees. Miss Bessie Davis received a china shower at Mrs Fred Farringtons home. Helen Luts held a masquerade party. Prudence Davis celebrated her fifteenth birthday at Mrs George Sperrys. Mrs Norman Musselman and Mrs J E Metta hosted about thirty five ladies for an afternoon whist at the Musselman home with flowers and refreshments. Mr Musselman regretted the absence of gentlemen.
The official count shows C. W. Pool of the Tribual was counted out by one vote. Charley, a good fellow, holds strong Democratic loyalties while his hometown paper is a dyed in the wool Democrat.
Donald McCoy returned to Kansas City on Thursday after a brief visit with his mother in this city.
