Matinee Musical at Mrs Gist’s Home Delightful Evening
Mrs T J Gist hosted a matinee at Chase Street last Friday at 10 o clock. Eighty five guests enjoyed performances by Mrs J M Cain Jr Stella and Mrs Fannie Cone Lincoln with Miss Maude Graham and Miss Etta Reichers. The program featured piano pieces by Chopin Brahms Sinding and Mac Dowell plus vocal items including Vannah Cradle Song. Light refreshments followed and guests from Salem Humboldt York Sedalia attended.

Near-fatal stove blaze sparks swift rescue by Prof Spencer
Last Sunday evening Prof. E. G. Spencer narrowly escaped severe burns when gasoline gas leaked outside a lit stove frame. He grabbed the flaming unit and, despite his clothes catching fire, smothered flames and hurled the stove into an alley. One hand suffered severe blistering while the other was injured but healing. he remains limited in using his right hand.

Hold your hogs amid market fluctuation
Richardson county farmers advised to hold hogs as the market dips from the current financial flurry. About 15,000 hogs were in Kansas City on Monday and the market fell 40 cents that day. Sam Bucher returned to work at Shubert Wednesday after visiting family in town.

Will McCumber a 12 year old of Preston was struck by a discharged shell while hunting near a lake. His uncle was reloading when the gun fired injuring his right arm requiring amputation above the wrist. A leg wound is painful but not serious. He is resting at home under care of Drs Boose and Fast.

Tragic Nampa Train Death Of Harvey Poehsinger
Harvey Poehsinger, a 1887 born brakeman for a government dam construction train, died after slipping and falling beneath wagons near Nampa Idaho on October 1. Coroner ruled accidental. Funeral held November 6 at the Christian church with large attendance. he left an aged father and three brothers.

Death of John Hershey Hershey in Mt Reno Nebraska native dies
John Hershey born Mapire Kansas later in White Cloud and Pallasis City moved southwest 18 years ago to Mt Reno where he died Saturday Nov 2 after brief illness. He was 8th child with two brothers and two sisters buried Steele cemetery near his old home. Rev Dunkelburger led service. Magle lodge El Reno member. Relatives in city and many friends mourn.

Wreck on the M P Northbound Line Delays Train
A broken rail caused a morning northbound wreck between Stella and Howe on the M P line. Three coaches left the track. the last overturned. No injuries, the train continued to Omaha with two coaches while the third lay wrecked.

Hoagland Brothers Commanded for Insanity Hearing
Harry R Hoagland of Humboldt was brought to the city by relatives to face an insanity examination. The board declared him insane and ordered him sent to the asylum. Sheriff Fenton escorted him to Lincoln. His brother Frank Hoagland was later brought in on the same charge but parole was granted pending good behavior and he returned home.
