The Larkin Manufacturing Co. of Omaha begins dismantling the local ice plant this week to relocate. Despite producing excellent ice, high production costs outweighed revenue, leaving the plant idle for several seasons and ending plans for a new trial this spring.
The Tribune questions McCray and Stalder over a bridge plan while rumors claim the courthouse deal may spark suits against the county. If lawsuits arise, they target the county, not individuals, as bridges proceed under the bridge committee with daily costs cited for construction and board members.
Ford Friedly of Verdon hosted the thirteenth annual Poland China hog sale with strong demand. J. W. Stowder of Auburn led bidding for a choice pair, while KR Cope, Harden Bowers, Will McDougall, Chris Horn and others bought multiple top hogs. Buyers from neighboring states attended as Cols. Marion and Leonard oversaw a successful sale.
Mrs Rose Avery and her children departed Tuesday evening to establish a new home in California, signaling a relocation event reported by the local paper.
John Marmet and Fred Lehnherr return from a Pine Island Minnesota gathering honoring elder Fred Lehnherr. The 80 plus year old hosts a lively reunion with relatives from Richardson County and Speiser precinct. Aged parents reflect on changing times and possible final family circle.
Popular star Walker Whiteside appeared at the Gehling in Falls City last Friday evening with the Magic Melody. The house was full and crowds from neighboring towns attended. Critics say Whiteside is not fully challenged by this production yet praise the company, orchestra, and overall high quality of the show. The large attendance is seen as encouragement for more high class attractions.
While tending his farm Sunday morning Alex Bohman of the McDowell place three miles northwest of town was badly hurt by a fractious horse. He was struck on the head and then on the leg, leaving him laid up this week. No bones were broken and he is expected to recover fully.
Local note records Henry I Speer of Barada visiting the town last Wednesday with no additional details or outcomes provided.
Mr. Smith, visiting from his farm near Salem, sold his tensorial parlor to Mrs. Clara Babb. Mrs. Glines, newly trained in barbering at an Omaha school, will offer specialized services. George Prater remains at his post in the shop.
While helping lift a heavy bookcase last Saturday morning George Hossack wrenched his shoulder. Neck and shoulder cords were strained and he will endure significant pain and limited movement for some time.
While helping at the Gehling theatre for the Magic Melody rehearsals Harvey Decker slipped and fell twenty feet through a trap doorway to the first floor. He was stunned but not seriously hurt and colleagues report the drop was not listed in the regular show notes.
Through the generosity of Vin cent Arnold of Verdon a copy of the State Agricultural Society annual report for 1905 is received. Compiled by secretary W S Mellor it offers valuable information. Arnold has long served Richardson county Agricultural society including secretarial and presidential roles. He joined the State Board of Agriculture in January and was re-elected in 1904 and 1906.
The document promotes voting for Republican candidates in November, pledging freight rate reductions to boost crop values. It argues a six to six cent per bushel freight reduction raises corn value by 32.00 an acre and ties support for Roosevelt to backing the straight Republican ticket.
Friends celebrate Albert Bentley’s 25th birthday with a surprise party at his home as autumn decor and a three course luncheon set a festive mood. Master Rollin Spence’s masquerade at the National hotel drew wide praise with music and an elegant luncheon.
The Phi organization held a meeting with members Kate Heacock Carrie Slocum Minnie Jussen Sarah Hutchings Wirt Kate Thomas Neva Morris Mabel Lyford and Mrs John Martin Margaret Norton and T J Gist present. Several were unable to attend and the group may become permanent. Mrs Albert Maust hosted a Halloween party noted for music games and refreshments. A young crowd enjoyed a hayrack party and an oyster supper at the Falloon residence afterward.
Mrs. P S Heacock hosted a Sorosis party with friends while Eithel Parden led Presbyterian Y P C EF on Halloween night. Helen Martin entertained Young Ladies Whist Club and Bessie Curran hosted a Halloween gathering. Friends in Council met with Miss Minnie McDonald and Miss Florence Cleaver led a Milton study with planned meetings tonight with Miss Lum and Miss McDonald on Paradise Regained.
After weeks of illness Franklin Brentzer died at his home at 1 o clock on October 26 aged 12 years 6 months and 12 days. Born April 1862 in Canton Ohio he moved to Nebraska with years. He married Nettie Barnes 27 years ago and leaves three children Clara Albert and Beulah all living. A Baptist deacon and longtime friend, he was described as kind and faithful to his family and church.
The community mourns Adolphus D. Messler who died after a week of illness. Born November 15, 1841 in Dayton Ohio, he moved to Canton then Richardson County and finally to the local city. He married Prandice Mellyaine November 14 1881 and had eight children. Funeral services at 3 PM at the family home with Woodmen of the World rites at Steele Cemetery.
As we go to press we learn that Geo, iiss, who has been seriously ill for some time, quietly passed away at his home in this ery. The obituary will appear in our next iseue.
Mrs. Sarah A. Horner and Rev. Amos Yoder of Gridley Illinois married at the bride’s home lastFriday in a small ceremony led by Elder El Yoder. The couple departed for Kentucky after a wedding luncheon. Mrs. Yoder has long resided in Falls City and Mr. Yoder is a noted minister in Gridley.
Reverend L A Myers of Hamlin Kansas and Miss Vina Shelly of Preston united in marriage on Tuesday October 30 at 1 o clock in the Brethren parsonage with Rev Rh RA Teeter performing the ceremony. The groom is a rising minister with many friends and good ideals. The bride has resided in Preston most of her life and is popular among Preston youths. The couple will reside in Hamlin Kansas and well wishes are given for their future.
Hon. M. B. Reese of Lincoln a Nebraska supreme justice and Hon. Hubert Cowell of Omaha a railroad commissioner candidate will address voters at the court house at 7 40 Saturday evening. The gathering closes the Republican campaign in this city and all Republicans in the area are urged to attend.

The Gehling theatre presents the popular play Over Niagara Falls next Wednesday with striking scenic features. A photo opportunity offers one dozen prints for 15 cents.
