A string of travelers and day visitors from Shubert Dawson Stella St. Joe and Omaha frequent the town. Highlights include J F Shubert seeking county clerk office and parties visiting relatives and attending chautauqua and circus. A dog catcher patrols streets while residents recall a Wichita trip and local fishing outing.
At a recent picnic several girls slipped away to swim while boys sought a fishing spot. The mermaids, hearing approaching voices, fled into the brush. A frightened swimmer whispered about a “dandy side” as a boy passing by commented the leg looked good to him.
Elmer Tuttle became intoxicated in Salem on Tuesday and caused a disturbance. The village marshal, with Captain Grinstead, struggled to arrest him and finally secured Tuttle. He was jailed in the county facility to await trial.
Hastings Tribune notes Falls City natives star in a recent Hastings and Kearney matchup. Shortstop Harry Foehlinger, third baseman Claire Foster, pitcher Gus Ruegge, and catcher Thomas Poteet earn praise from local fans for their experienced play.
Seven year old son of Mrs O Mara living seven miles north of the city accompanied his widow mother to the street fair. He climbed a high fence around the county jail to see the loop the loop, fell into an open cellar way and sustained numerous severe bruises. He was dressed and returned home.
Miss Elizabeth and Misses Elta and Clara Roose hosted the Young Ladies Kensington club at the Presbyterian church. Two men arrived with Kensington bags and a license fee to crochet, but the club kept control by rejecting their bids for marriage proposals, ending a pleasant evening with refreshments. Frank Todd traveled from Humboldt for the street fair on Wednesday.
Parker Amusement Co. pitched tents on Stone Street drawing crowds to a lively street fair. Free attractions were scarce and guests paid for most entertainment. While the band and merry go round pleased, the venture’s finances suffered, despite orderly conduct and apparent public interest. A damaged ride, a Katzenjammer castle quip, and Alpine spectacle added color as a Dawson couple rode the Perris wheel before a paused proposal at the top.
On last Thursday County Judge Wilhite performed the marriage ceremony for Samuel Knowles and Sadie G Wing, both residents of Mound City Missouri.
Hon I M Pollard newly elected congressman from the first district wed Gertrude Waterman at the bride's Omaha home Tuesday evening. The romance began in Lincoln during the campaign. They have started a Pacific coast trip after the ceremony.
The Journal's claim of a lawyer seeking an injunction against the mayor is labeled baseless. The show’s proprietor consulted a lawyer who advised mandamus to compel a license, but no writ was possible due to judge absence. Judge Wilhite states no injunction was requested, urging the paper to consider its legal department's stance.
City clergy and prominent citizens gathered with the mayor Monday evening to discuss gambling and illegal activities. The mayor met Francis Martin on the church steps before the session, with attendees reporting the mayor dominated the meeting and criticized the Tribune. The Tribune notes the sermon ended with a defiant “we told you so” from the preacher.
The infant son of Chas Heineman stepped on a nailed foot piercing the sole. Dr Burchard treated the wound which was very painful but the injury is healing well.
Humboldt residents Joe Morris Hugh Leatherman Jon Beard and Herb Dorland joined others on Wednesday for a fair visit. Miss Emma Frank of Quincy Illinois stayed this week with J C Tanner at his home as a guest.
The Richardson County teachers institute will be held in Falls City from August 7 to 12. Enrollment is expected to reach 175, and organizers seek boarding providers for visiting teachers. Those offering room and board are asked to inform the requester.
Win Brandow owner of the Nemaha Valley herd of Duroc Jerseys reports the loss of Eskort 29501, a valued animal and grandson of Duroc Challenger 11163. The hog was valued at over $750, with the remaining herd in good condition.

John Lichty his wife and daughter Marie returned from the Portland Oregon exposition reporting a pleasant time. Sam Kimmel and wife came back Wednesday from a visit to the Portland exposition.

Social notes report the Brethren Sunday school picnic at Schock's grove was postponed due to bad weather. Philena Yutzy arrived from Sioux City to visit her father Dr. J. C. Yutzy and relatives for about two weeks. Mrs. Fred Stringfield and Myrtle Bryant visited E. P. Stringfield's family. Bess Heacock, hospital bound in Humboldt last week, returned home and slowly recovers. Minnie A. McDonald hosted the M. E. Kensington group for an afternoon gathering.
Nelle Snyder entertained guests from three to six oclock on Wednesday afternoon at her home in honor of Misses Lyle Kirschner and Kitchen visiting Nelle Cain. Guests played cards and were served ices and cream. Mrs. Lloyd Gianini won the prize, a hat pin.
