Frank Knickerbocker of Crystal Lake Ice was hurt last Saturday when tongs slipped while lifting a large ice cake. A deep wound to his left calf will sideline him briefly but not permanently disable him.
A stranger in Shubert drove into town with a team and asked authorities to arrest him. While he quenched his thirst, a message beschrieben both. Iowa officers then arrived and learned the prisoner was wanted for stealing the team on July 4. He agreed to return to Iowa without requisition papers.

The Nebraska conference of the M. E. church will gather in Falls City on September 19, 1905. About two hundred ministers and church officials from Cincinnati New York Philadelphia and Chicago will attend with missionary representatives from many lands. Bishop J W Hamilton of Francisco California will preside. Falls City welcomes this notable event and the visitors.
Hon B M Pollard Republican candidate for Congress and Hon Allen W Field spoke to a crowded courtroom gathering after a concert by the Harpack Military band. Roosevelt club president W E Dorrington opened the meeting and Pollard received an ovation before outlining his campaign platform and support for Roosevelt's administration. The pair then addressed a Humboldt audience that evening.
A city council meeting last Thursday formed the plan for a special election on Tuesday August 15 to issue 36000 bonds at four percent for twenty years. Funds will rebuilt waterworks and electric light systems, relocate pumping station, remove standpipe, extend mains, add fire hydrants, and provide all night electric light service.
A Friday morning blaze in Rule, Nebraska left the east side of the main street in ruins. Eli Plante’s general store and adjacent shops suffered heavy loss with partial insurance covering about 14,000 but actual damages near 7,000 for Plante, higher for Ccomb and the saloon. The town expects rebuilding on a larger scale despite no immediate plans.
Esper J. Cronenberger urges city faith groups to visit every church and Sunday school as part of a district canvass. He notes minimal opposition, praises respectful treatment of visitors, and mentions distributing shared expenses among schools once totals are added up.

Ed Fisher has acted as local agent for Adams Express and now will assume the company’s Leavenworth Kansas office in about ten days. Friends and Mrs Fisher regret the move but congratulate him on a well deserved promotion.
W. W. Brown a well known farmer and thresherman living east of town was badly bruised when a tank wagon carrying bridge planks ran away near his home. He was thrown between the wagon and the mules after the planks shifted and frightened the team.
Former Falls City resident C W Melvin now pursued by 200 locals after he wrecked three saloons and $100000 in Iola last week. He lived in Falls City about eighteen years ago and was married to Mary Stump here, remembered as an eccentric figure by many.
