Stout Changes Plea In Iowa Murder Case

In Vinton Iowa on October 11 the State of Iowa v William Stout ended when the defendant, via attorney, withdrew a not guilty plea to murder in the first degree and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The court indicated uncertainty about first degree guilt, considered the case closer to manslaughter, and scheduled sentencing for October 16 at 9 a.m.

Not Guilty Declared In Embezzlement Case At Clinton Ta

Frank B. Pesch of Clinton was acquitted by a jury after a three day trial on charges of larceny by embezzlement. He had been a United States Express collector who claimed a burglar shot him during an incident at home, losing $500. Witnesses including his wife and visitors supported his account, leading to his release.

Mystery of Bank Draft Found in Train Pilot

Chris Dahl, a stockman from near Albaton Monona County, reports a Sloan State Bank draft for 1500 dollars vanished while he traveled to St Paul. The draft appeared on the pilot of a Chicago Burlington and Quincy engine in La Crosse Wisconsin, found by a Grand Crossing boiler maker. The bank halted payment and authorities seek how the pocketbook and draft arrived on the engine after a pickpocket incident in St Paul.
