The populists nominate F. P. Mowery for state senator. Prohibitionists hold county convention this Saturday at the courthouse with 1 30 P M start. Other listed officials include W. S. Babb as Lieutenant Governor and L. Bestow as Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The speaker accuses Mr Drake of evading the liquor question to curry favor with both liquor men and prohibitionists. He is described as wishing to please all sides rather than taking a firm stand on policy.
L. S. Coffin quits the Republican Party citing Drake’s pledge to accept whatever action the legislature might take as beyond him. Coffin has long stood with the party but resigns now.
The candidate for governor, Mr. Drake, the railroad man, takes the position he would not veto any measure passed by Congress regarding liquor legislation. This stance frames his campaign as a rigid, pro liquor policy choice.
