The Tribune will establish a carrier service for Jefferson county children to send letters to Old St. Nicholas. Children should address letters in care of The Tribune. Santa Claus, a longtime subscriber, will have letters printed in the paper and forwarded to him.
Atlanta Georgia November 21 The Rockefeller commission for the eradication of hook worm disease is expected to attend in a body the first national conference for the study of this disease in Atlanta January 18 and 19. Officers of state boards of health medical associations civic bodies and insurance companies are invited. The conference is held under the joint auspices of the Georgia state board of health and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
A memorial service for the late Governor Johnson of Minnesota will be held November 28 at Broadway Tabernacle in New York City. Invitations issued by the American and Scandinavian Society of New York, with President Nicholas Murray Butler of Columbia University, will host speeches by Gov. Charles E. Hughes, former Minnesota senator Charles Towne, and others. President Taft is also invited.
In Washington on November 2 an attempted home burglary at J. H. Davis’s dwelling ended with David Fulward stuck in the chimney. Police and neighbors freed him only after removing the chimney and mantle. he was locked up pending trial.
James J. Hill told President Taft at the White House that high living costs threaten national decline and urged economy in both private and government spending. He warned of rising costs burdening the masses while the rich remain unaffected and called for focus on food and dress costs and overall prosperity.
Chicago report states Charles Bender of 1307 West Sixty-Ninth Street was lured to his shop rear door by a knock. A masked robber entered with a revolver, then two accomplices forced him inside a storage ice box and locked him in. They robbed the cash drawer of 170 dollars before fleeing.
Burlington reports an unusual carcass found near Kinkora is brought to the city for public viewing. Experts may name the creature after examining a 20 inch body with kangaroo like spine, flat broad feet, possible wings, sharp teeth, and long ears, feeding speculation about last winter hoofprints.
The Dairy and Domestic Science departments stage progress for the upcoming Short Course. Captain Mader died after taking the pills. autopsy showed cyanide presence. The circular bore a false signature and address, with many staff lieutenants also not receiving pills.
Uncle Sam's hired hunters in Mason and Pierce counties report 97 wildcats slain this season along with 28 cougars and over 100 wolves. The program, expanding to forest reserves, pays $80 monthly plus county bounties, with more than 1,000 cougars and 5,000 wolves slain nationwide in the fiscal year.
