Jasper county is a notable exception.
An old advertisement promises No-To-Bac as a guaranteed tobacco habit cure for fifty cents. It claims to make weak men strong and purify blood, available from all druggists.
The record shows McKinley ahead by 14 754 in earlier results, but 1897 wiped this out and produced a 1 643 White plurality. White's gains across 21 counties totaled 16 397, averaging 781 per county, a rate that could have secured White's election with thousands to spare if mirrored in silver counties.
