The vigorous Chicago mayor gains national prominence with a strong record and a favorable Iowa endorsement. Critics in Europe might use his remark on common people versus his "black horse" to argue against American self governance.
The Union of Manchester argues prosperity under McKinley and Hanna is exclusive. Western corn farmers and southern cotton farmers, plus eastern toilet users, are overlooked by the current distribution. Prosperity should benefit many beyond a few office seekers and cereal growers.
