Joseph Greagor of Eagle Grove and partner in Yearous & Gregor drowned fishing above Humboldt dam on Des Moines River. He was about 75, leaving a wife and three children as Eagle Grove mourns a prominent merchant after the boat capsized in a whirlpool and Greagor sank. Oskaloosa Iowa has raised 150000 in subscriptions to build an interurban road to Buxton as a private enterprise. Three weeks ago Francis and Scullin of St Louis offered to build for 100000 donation, including acquiring the Oskaloosa and Ottumwa electric plants. Sixty five thousand had been subscribed when options expired. Ottumwa declined extension and the deal was declared off. Oskaloosa then moved to proceed with the project independently.
Oskaloosa Iowa May 26 Ottumwa Morrell packing company employes annual picnic will come to Oskaloosa this year. A letter of acceptance from Ottumwa was received stating the picnic date of August 24.
Two governors will address the Estherville Woodmen’s picnic on Wednesday June 14. A. B. Cummins and former Minnesota governor Samuel Van Sant will be featured speakers amid planned attractions and sports in Estherville Iowa.
John Henry Ryan of Dubuque divorces Kathryne of Dubuque after a sensational suit sparked by a want ad marriage. Judge Jones denies alimony, orders Ryan to cover his wife’s attorney costs, and notes mutual fault in a case that disrupted their Sioux Falls home.
The Iowa conference Woman’s Home Missionary Society of the M. E. Church finished its annual meeting at Ottumwa. Officers were re-elected: President Mrs I O Kemble Ottumwa, First vice president Mrs P B Davis Ottumwa, Corresponding secretary Mrs G Murphy Mr Pleasant, Recording secretary Mrs George Haw Sr Ottumwa, Treasurer Mrs L F Owens Burlington. Miss Henrietta Bancroft Detroit and Miss Corbin New York gave major addresses.
William Russell a 60 year old Guthrie County farmer shocked friends by marrying a teen from Illinois after a few days courtship. They visited Guthrie Center then moved to his county land. The bride vanished during the night triggering a sanity crisis and warrant issued for Russell. Police search continues as Russell owns land and holdings in the Dakotas.

The decision says Iowa volunteers were not in federal service during Camp McKinley to muster into the U S Army, so the state may recover pay for that period. Anamosa Iowa May 26 Attorneys for E E Snyder the Olin banker asked for a continuance to the September term on grounds of unpreparedness. Judge Preston granted the continuance and Snyder will remain free on bond until the term. State witnesses had been subpoenaed and the county attorney wished to proceed.
Harry Taylor, a colored prisoner from Memphis Missouri, arrested in Centerville Iowa after a jail break allegation. Acting on a sheriff telegram, George Steel nabbed him on the east side of Centerville’s square and turned him over for transfer to Memphis. He is held for larceny in Illinois.
Paroled convict F. Davidson was arrested in Bussey Iowa on May 26 for an attempted assault. He was identified by two potential victims Grace Bennett and Mabel Fergus.
