Transacts general banking business money to loan at reasonable rates for long or short time on real estate or personal security. Business done as liberally as consistent with safe banking. Acts as custodian of wills and valuable papers without charge. Interest at four percent per annum on deposits for at least six months.
No interest paid on demand deposits. Officers named include J. E. Roth as president, E. A. Howard as vice president, and Jas. Sullivan as cashier.
Jefferson county Democrats hold a delegate convention at the courthouse in Fairfield on Saturday June 20 at 7 PM to choose nine delegates for the state convention in Ottumwa and to elect a county central committee. Delegates per precinct based on population and Chamblin vote totals, primaries June 13 at 7 PM.
The Henry county Democrats will nominate Professor Gus Walters for State Superintendent at the Democratic State Convention in Ottumwa. Walters, Iowa Wesleyan graduate, chairs mathematics at the college, formerly led Fort Madison High School, and served as president of Whittier College. He is highly regarded and considered a strong, capable head for the state public school system.
A circular from Edgar E. Mack, chairman of the Republican Central Committee, urges Iowa Republicans to contribute $20 to cover past shortfalls and fund campaign groundwork after a costly effort last fall. The plea notes receipts of 65000 dollars yet insufficient to meet expenses and asks for immediate help ahead of the state convention.
Farmers receive two to five cents less per pound for wool, and a Chicago Tribune article warns of rising foreign wool imports since the McKinley tariff. The table shows 1890 and 1891 first class wool imports in pounds, with total imports jumping to over twelve million pounds for the three months, despite higher duties and stricter classification.
The McKinley wool schedule is attacked as faulty policy after figures show rising imports of all classes of wools. Third class carpet wools flood in despite higher duties, pushing out Michigan and Ohio fleeces and harming eastern growers. Memorial Day services in Fairfield and a Van Amburgh circus set for June 4 are noted.
Former Kansas governor John P St John blasts a new reform convention as a failure arguing it rejected prohibition and proposed a visionary sub treasury plan. He predicts many reformers will shift to the prohibition party, calling the movement a birth of a whisky party.
W. B. Denny of New Lexington Ohio reports using Chamberlain Pain Balm for nearly two years and four bottles with unprecedented rheumatism relief. His testimonial states they always keep a bottle at home and Bradshaw Thoma Druggist supplies it.
At the last Thursday meeting Mayor Jaques and six trustees discussed lamp location changes in wards four and two and referred remonstrances to the water and light committee. The water rate at college was sent to the same committee. Sidewalk reconstruction was ordered and a four foot walk along First East Street was approved unless owner pays extra for a wider walk. The street commissioner may accept 2.00 in lieu of two days poll labor. An ordinance repealing Section 7 of Ordinance 17 was passed under suspension. A cracker use ordinance for July 4 was read first. Current bills were approved and the council adjourned to June 3.

He notes its use in Stubbs and Jordan buildings and offers ordering through the city weighmaster or his home near the Free Methodist church. Also includes a Hall’s Hair Renewer promotional line.
