A May 12 blaze in Earlville Delaware County Iowa leveled 11 residences and 19 business houses along the north side of the Illinois Central line. The fire caused about 200000 dollars in damage with 75000 dollars insured. No lives lost though many were scorched while saving property. A special Dubuque train delivered groceries and lumber as rebuilding begins after debris removal.

Miss Henrietta Hempstead, 19, was killed instantly during a playful rifle contest near Spring station on Capt James Blackburn’s farm. Cousins Henrietta Blackburn and Samuel Blackburn witnessed the accident. Funeral services were held in Frankfort.
