Miss Hazel Sauer will close the program with two solos linked to the State Music Teachers Association event in Des Moines in late April. Three days after John Larson died at his daughter’s home Mrs. Barbara Larson followed him to the grave. She had been ailing for months. Samuel Gillis 77 of Batavia died Sunday at his daughter Stella Burnaugh’s home in Ottumwa after a period of poor health. Born September 16 1846 in Wapello County he lived most of his life in Jefferson County near Batavia. He is survived by Cora Newell Winnie Gillis Frank Gillis Verne Gillis and two deceased siblings. His wife died last August. Funeral services were held at the Batavia Christian church with burial in Batavia Cemetery.

Orlando Flower Dies in Colorado and Buried Here
The remains of Orlando Flower, a former Fairfield resident, died at his Ft. Collins home last Friday. His body was brought to his nephew Louis Easton’s home for funeral services on Monday and burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. George Liblin Sr. died Sunday evening at her home two miles southeast of Fairfield after a brief illness. She would have turned eighty on April 18 and was a longtime Jefferson County resident. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Malissa and Mrs. William Fickel, and four sons Sylvester Edward George and Frank.

Flags to furnish every schoolhouse in Jefferson County
The Woman's Relief Corps ordered one hundred flags for each schoolroom in Jefferson County to honor the Grand Army of the Republic and George Strong Post Fairfield. A Tag Day is set for Tuesday April 3 with committees visiting Fairfield homes to collect freewill offerings. A country fair in the second week of April is planned to defray costs as the fundraiser continues.
