Iowa Senate rejects Chapman bill to bar death crisis reports

Des Moines March 23 The Iowa senate again rejected the Chapman bill aimed at stopping printing accounts of personal crises in newspapers. The measure would limit type size and forbid display on front pages. Supporters cited health board ties while opponents doubted house passage. The senate also passed seven bills and concurred in amendments on three others. Senator Allen moved up the Hunter cigarette search bill, but opposition remained. The Wilson bridge bid ad advertising bill also passed, requiring county boards to bid on bridges and accept state highway plans.

Independent and Republican Tickets in City Election

Two tickets oppose each other for the Monday March 29 city election. Independent candidates include Mayor J F Clarke and rival slates list Frank McClain and John A Healy among others. Republican slate features C J Fulton and R F Wilson with Ed Vinton withdraw. Fulton’s withdrawal not formalized. Vinton exits Republican ticket. Outcome expected to be spirited with Independents favored by Fulton’s public stance.
