Child Struck by Train Near Hampton Faces Recovery
A two year old child of S C Jeffers, three miles west of Hampton Iowa, was struck by a through freight on the Chicago Great Western and hurled twenty feet. Despite multiple fractures and severe bruises, doctors say the child will live. The incident occurred as the child attempted to cross a cattle guard near the track. The cow catcher threw the child onto the right of way while the train, traveling about thirty miles per hour, passed. The crew reported no immediate fatalities.
