May Act Next Week On Drainage Plans
At the board of supervisors session next week an engineer may be appointed to survey a large drainage project for Cedar creek. The plan would reduce a seventy mile, winding creek to twenty eight miles of straight waterway freeing 4,500 acres of Jefferson county farmland from flood and marsh conditions. The project, costing about 75,000 dollars, would affect around 100 landowners at roughly 15 dollars per acre, with bonds filed. Similar undertakings are reported for the Nishna and East Nishna rivers in nearby counties as examples of straightened channels and dredging efforts.

Lafayette Coop died January 28 at his home in Jefferson County at age 85. A longtime resident and Antioch church founder, he was known for hospitality and civic work. Surviving are wife Cynthia Jane Spencer and seven children, with two daughters-in-law and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Antioch church with burial nearby.
