Community notes report drunken rowdiness at Bloomfield and a resident seer in Fairfield seeking care for fistula.
Proceedings begin January 7 1889 with A F Cassel and L G Myers present John McLane sworn in as county supervisor for three years Myers elected chairman for the year Official bonds approved for Z T Lewis C P Sippel R J Wilson C E Noble and others including several justices of the peace and constables across Fairfield Locust Grove Penn Polk Round Prairie Blakbank Lib erty Des Moines Cedar and Lockridge townships Bonds approved for numerous constables and clerks Semi annual settlement with treasurer adjourned to 9 oclock tomorrow morning Newspaper designation Fairfield Ledger and Fairfield Tribune for publishing proceedings and claims Five dollar bounty for each wolf scalp over six months old and two fifty for under six months issued from county fund Adjournment noted until next morning.
Jefferson county board session adjourned reads and approves minutes. Appoints 1889 committees and officers including bridges, poor farm, public buildings, and city overseer. Reports show Messick aided 57 people cost 261 dollars. Hackney fees total 131.90. Tax classification adopted for livestock wagons carriages and busses among others.
Journal notes from January 9 1889 record bridge committee reports expenses 41.93 and ? Westenhaver fees 1315.39, assessor reduction 60, petitions on culverts referred to bridges, treasurer settlement with detailed state county school city road funds and transfers.
A mixed late 19th century update reports on various fund balances and transfers including Teachers' Fund, Water Fund, Orphans' Home, Blind Asylum, and A. P. M. C. accounts with cash on hand and receipts. The note lists adjournment, advertising, and community notices, plus short local items about meetings, visitors, business plans, produce weighed for city scales, and a 1889 production of local news. It closes with announcements of Hall’s Renewer and Ayer products and Modern Woodmen officers installed.
Scheduled eastbound trains list No. 15 passenger No. 14 passenger and No. 16 passenger with times from morning to evening. Freight trains No. 17 No. 23 No. 28 run daily except some Sundays with two exceptions detailed.
