Arthur Anderson died from injuries suffered in a Davenport railroad accident Saturday after slipping on the platform and being struck by a train. Born October 22, 1885 in Fairfield, he spent most of his life there before moving to Davenport. He and his wife Maude McConnell had a son, Gerald Howard. He is survived by his mother and a sister. Funeral rites were held at the McConnell home with Rev. Co. L. Tennant officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery with K P Lodge last rites.
Charles Jones of Mt. Pleasant has purchased the Fairfield Pure Ice plant and will take possession at once. He is an experienced ice man and plans additions and improvements to raise capacity, with work to be completed in time for next season’s business.
Mrs Laura E Chilcott is reappointed overseer of the poor at a salary of 225 dollars per year. The appointment praises her interest in the welfare of the needy and knowledge of locating the worthy poor. Her Philanthropic work and ability to teach others are highlighted as key strengths.

At a Jefferson County Farm Bureau meeting held Monday officers were elected for the ensuing year. President Ray Yeager, Vice President E. S. Girton, Secretary C. L. Brawner, and Treasurer O. F. Fryer. Directors include Homer Koch Brighton and others from Fairfield Pleasant Plain Libertyville and Lockridge.

At a Monday council meeting Gus A. Castile was elected to succeed the late Frank Simpson who died December 24. Castile has long been active in city affairs and his selection is seen as advancing the people's welfare in council matters. The election met with general approval.
Billy Sunday will hold meetings in Davenport Rock Island and Moline within the next year. Final plans are being discussed for the Tri-city campaign. A large tabernacle is expected to be erected in Rock Island for the fall meetings.
Two marriage licenses were issued in the past week by Clerk Zeigler. Thomas Dorothy of Stockport married Thelma Gill of Salem, and George Brown wed Elnora Moss from St. Senne and Fairfield respectively.
Theodore Roosevelt former president died at his Sagamore Hill home after a blood clot in the lung. His death followed years of strenuous public life and shocks from war and family losses. A memorial service was held in Fairfield, and flags flew at half mast as cities observed the bereavement. A Paris cable from President Wilson proclaimed three decades of service and the nation’s respect, with half-mast flags and naval honors planned for the funeral day.
F D Mason of Douglas Wyoming was elected treasurer of Parsons college. A Parsons graduate from the class of 1891, he will relocate his family to the area in the near future and the college considers the appointment very fortunate.
