Community Club Hosts Insightful Meeting At Armory

A small crowd attended but praised a Community Club gathering at the Armory. Dr. H. E. Jackson urged Parsons College support for SA TC students and proposed a community farm and memorial building to bolster postwar reconstruction and school spirit. A committee will pursue bonds and a plan to fund the farm project.

University Vaccinates 1250 S A T C Men in Three Hours

About 1250 University of Iowa S A T C men were vaccinated for smallpox typhoid and paratyphoid in three hours and twenty minutes under Dr D C Steelsmith. The procedure used a combined oil based vaccine with rapid, organized steps allowing most students to return to class by Monday.

Prefers Home to Commission Amid Cadet Flight Offer

Hayes W. Parsons received an honorable discharge from the Cadet Flying company of Ft. Omaha and returned home. The unit had 300 cadets. twelve chose to remain for commissions while the others left. Twenty seven dozen eggs were sent to homes as a Thanksgiving offering.

Iowa Gleaners Hold State Convention With 400 Farmers

The Iowa State convention of the Ancient Order of Gleaners drew over 400 farmers to Iowa on November 50. A permanent legislative committee was created to call future conventions and draft policy resolutions. Gleaners advocated wartime support, cooperative marketing, and local elevation projects, with Detroit secretary H. Slocum addressing aims and bond subscriptions. Parsons A. T. C. to be Mustered Out

Parsons college company of 108 members of the Student Army Training Corps will be mustered out of government service along with all other colleges. The local company departs early next week after about two months of service. Members achieved a high proficiency in training and renewal and insist they cannot continue in service.

Cedar Rapids Linn County set a new hog production record this year per W C Miller county agent. The report shows 5 479 more porkers in the county this fall than last fall. Census figure 112 473 hogs, prior years around 107 000. War driven focus boosted production.
