Turmoil in Knoose Mining Camp with Multiple Murders
In Appanoose county within 24 hours four deaths occurred including two murders and two deaths in custody. George Wesson was killed near the Knoose mine by Fritz Teger. witnesses refused to testify to coroner and McGregor faces a jury. James Todd, a local Negro, was shot by Albert Jack in a gambling debt dispute and died at Centerville hospital. John A. Gathercole, a K W brakeman, fell from a train near Wayland and died. A Moore, another K W brakeman, died after a yards collision. Ball case involves a writ of habeas corpus testifying on his mother's recovered articles. decision pending.

Bert Pell was sentenced by Judge C B Bradshaw in Marshalltown Iowa to twenty five years at Fort Madison for the July 20 murder of Joan H Lepley of Gifford. The judge spoke the sentence at 10 37 am six days after the guilty verdict. Pell remained unremorseful and told the court I am innocent of the crime they charge me with.

In Ottumwa Iowa on November 28 Colonel George O'Brien a 99 year old veteran of two wars and with a long gray beard was confined at the police station overnight after an incident involving two glasses of whiskey. He said the staff overpowered him and he was en route to relatives in O'Brien and Pocahontas counties. His home is Indianapolis Indiana and he will be 100 on May 25 1908.
