Lorn F Nichols died at his home on August 10 at age 57. Born in Des Moines he resided here for many years. Survived by widow and step daughter Mrs Bert Dill of Fairfield and son Vase Glasgow of Milwaukee. A prominent Odd Fellows member. Funeral services were held last Friday morning at the home.
Railroads protest tax assessment with federal injunctions. County Auditor Turner and three county supervisors face subpoenas to appear in Des Moines on August 29. Burlinton and Rock Island railways seek to block state certification of tax assessments. Similar actions filed by railroads statewide against county officials.
Chas. H. McIntosh president of the Associated Advertising Clubs of the World addressed about forty members of the local Ad club at a luncheon at the Leggett hotel Tuesday. His talk was well received and drew interest from attendees.
Ottumwa couple Miss Beulah Raney and Ray Good were married at the Methodist parsonage last Monday by Rev. Frank Leeds. They left for Des Moines to begin their life together.

He spoke after addressing Chicago meat packers on a new bill expanding FTC powers over packers.
A collision Monday afternoon on the road near Bernhart involved a car driven by Dan Bennett and another driven by a Corydon man. Both drivers and other occupants escaped injury as the two vehicles were badly smashed.
The Old Settlers quartet left Wednesday for Oskaloosa to perform at a Farmers Union picnic expected to draw about 20 000. They will then sing at a similar gathering in Iowa City the next day.
L H Heitcamp of Burnside township dies near Burnside aged sixty one after a life centered in one area. Born on the Lindermann farm southwest of town he farmed within three miles all his life and never left Iowa except a stay of under a week. He was the father of twelve children.

Davenport reports a local real estate broker John C. Comlins found a bizarre bird in Buffalo that looks like a duck but has the bill and feet of a chicken. He insured its life for $1000 and plans to exhibit it at fairs after bringing it home May 13.
A large clan gathering from Ms Points to the Seventy five held in Fairfield area park Tuesday with Aunt Mary DeCamp of Letts the sole surviving original member now in her nineties. Attendees came from Kansas City Des Moines Muscatine Letts Washing ton Ollie Batavia Libertyville and others including members in Florida Indiana Kansas Washington Oregon and California. A unanimous resolution thanked the Fairfield Chautauqua association for access to grounds and auditorium as an ideal venue.
