Death of President Barrios Described In Battle Detail
The San Francisco Bulletin reports on President Barrios of Guatemala killed in battle with San Salvadorians. Barrios left his tent after officers refused to command, was shot by a Sharpshooter, and his body was recovered after a struggle during the clash. His son Venancio and a son-in-law died in the attempt. The dispatches from the United States were delayed, affecting Barrios's decisions. Mrs Barrios suggested a living man would be a better monument than any statue.
