The Burlington Gazette warns Iowa Republicans face calamity after a Des Moines caucus voted almost unanimously to oppose changes to the Clark law and to back a resubmission. The move signals continued prohibition enforcement and could doom the party if dissenters act to save it.
Col. A. L. Harris, a leading Georgia Republican, publicly withdraws from the party. He rails against a small black-white faction running the Georgia GOP for offices and national convention delegates, contending the party is dominated by a class of negroes with few white collaborators.

They claim J J Davis as the sole legal heir, with a staged review of his lineage and proof of identity, while a court hearing date was moved to the 14th to notify interested parties.
Taking effect March 10 1880 the Rock Island will establish local second class rate of five dollars between Chicago and Atchison Leavenworth and Kansas City and extend to all intermediate points where local rates are higher. Also on the same date rates to Denver Pueblo Colorado Springs and intermediate points via Kansas City or St Joseph will be increased by ten dollars to current rates to Kansas City or St Joseph.
