Washington D C March 31 The reception of Herbert Hoover in the republican camp here today as a full fledged candidate for the G O P presidential nomination could hardly be described as warm hearted. A republican senator called Hoover welcome as any man who eighteen months ago urged Americans to elect a democratic congress. Hoover's announcement dominated Senate debate with McKellar Grenna Ashurst and others weighing in. Old Guard and progressives opposed Hoover, Johnson and Borah leading the fight. McKellar opened the debate by reading Hoover's announcement and critiquing his speeches on economic questions as hard to understand.
A heavy wind last week toppled an empty 9,000 gallon oil tank near Collins Oil station. Section men John Ed. Martin and Pearl Smith helped push it back onto the main track, then spent the day trying to stop it from rolling east through town with makeshift obstacles.
A Mesa Arizona newspaper records Frank S. West being elected cashier and director of the Salt River Valley bank and assistant cashier of another Mesa bank. The Fairfield native is praised for his prior service as cashier of the Fairfield National bank.

Georgia Democrats reported a petition by 118 Atlanta voters asking President Wilson to qualify for the April 20 primary. Secretary Gardner sent Wilson a telegram seeking his decision while White House aides said he had no knowledge of the petition.
