Fairfield mulls new education recreation zoning to curb sprawl

The Town Plan and Zoning Commission will discuss Flatto's letter proposing an education and recreation zone to protect open space as development rises. The plan aims to balance commercial industrial and residential districts, reserve school and recreation sites, and prevent loss of golf courses and other open areas amid ownership changes and new school sites. A July 23 TPZ meeting is planned, with a subcommittee to study the issues.

Man promises never to mow lawn again

At a Conservation Commission meeting acting as an Inland Wetlands panel, Joseph Formato faced an appeal over mowing a 30 foot bank parcel at 3870 Black Rock Turnpike. He admitted to mowing twice yearly for upkeep after a prior officer said it was allowed, but the panel ordered a fence to mark the parcel and enforce no mowing, in a 4-3 vote aimed at a compromise.
