Des Moines delegates from state and local health boards opened a two day conference at the Y M C A addressing pure milk supply quarantine for smallpox and the white slave traffic. Lecture by Clifford G Roe of Chicago features the program focusing on white slave traffic and tuberculosis prevention.
Des Moines reports a friction between John P. White president of the Iowa district miners union and Harry Baker secretary treasurer. White may act to justify his position amid district disputes.
Washington sets plan to hear new material facts bearing on how the Brownsville incident occurred. The discharge soldiers of the Twenty fifth regiment may prove they were not engaged in the riot and may reenlist if they wish to take advantage of the act creating the tribunal. Proceedings will move to Brownsville and then Washington with military legal representation available.
On October 26 in Muskowes near Sleeper Oklahoma a Cherokee youth named Jack Willis fought officers inside a schoolhouse after resisting arrest for a minor offense. Willis was killed and Deputy Constable Tuck Ketcher was fatally wounded.
Members of Hawkeye Lodge No. 386 held a surprise farewell party for Mrs. John Fry at the Green home on West Broadway. Guests arrived quietly and presented Mrs. Fry with a cut glass vase as she prepares to move to California for good.
At a class meeting the Juniors chose The Charity Ball as their winter play and cast it. Rehearsals are expected soon with group meetings planned. Outsiders praise the selection as a high class production and note Fairfield Dramatic Club considered it but did not perform due to members being out of town.
Thomas Ford and Miss Mable Harman were quietly married Friday afternoon at the English Lutheran church at 4:80. Only necessary witnesses, Mr and Mrs Ford, were present. The couple will reside at 400 North 6th Street and are wished happiness by many friends in the city.
Washington October 26 Wright brothers Wilbur and Orville achieved controlled descents from the air at College Park. A biplane glided safely with engines off after each flight, landing steadily 1 900 feet from the shed. Wright emerged from the craft stating he had briefly been at 160 feet.
The sentence of Thomas W. Harvey, convicted of complicity in wrecking the Enterprise National Bank of Pittsburgh, Pa., and serving seven years, was commuted to three years by President Taft. The commutation was announced from Washington on October 26.

William Corr died yesterday afternoon at his North B street home after a three year cancer illness. He was a Civil War veteran, survived by a wife and several children. Funeral services were held today at 3 pm conducted by Rev. L Tennant, with George Strong Post No 19 G A R escorting the casket to Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Carr remains ill with a heart condition.
