Major Birmingham Fire Destroys J A Collins Co Store
A blaze at J A Collins & Co store in Birmingham on Wednesday night burned for about two hours, wiping out over 20000 dollars in property. The Skinner and Clark buildings and nearby residences were ruined, with limited insurance coverage and widespread damage to merchandise and stock. The origin remains uncertain and the fire spread from the rear of the building amid a bucket brigade response.

Iowa Woman Missionary Meeting Described as Bright and Strong
The Iowa branch of the Woman’s Board of Missions is praised as a top gathering. Delegates from Congregational circles heard Scripture, viewed a welcome by Mrs Pinch, and heard Mrs Parker review Congregational history in the region. Mrs Pearse spoke on the value of missionary spirit, with stories from Africa by Mrs Webster and a scene from Miss Jessie Bradshaw’s singing. Delegates enjoyed a city tour and a reception at Pareons College.

Uniform County Certificate Law Improves Teaching Credentials
Iowa’s Uniform County Certificate takes effect October 1. Second class certificates now cover two years and first class three years and are valid statewide when recorded. Examinations occur on the last Friday Wednesday and Thursday before January June July and October in county seats.

First Regular Teachers Examination Under New Law
