Eastern railroads told the interstate commerce commission they will soon file formal applications for general increases in freight rates. New York Ort 18 reports Vincent Kelty of Jersey City, a yardmaster, has five sons who enlisted in the army and navy. Troops quell port strikes in Honduras as clashes in La Ceiba kill and wound combatants. Reported fatalities include both sides, with unconfirmed hearsay of Americans killed near Hero and at least six Americans mentioned by consulate officials.
London reports twelve British merchant vessels over 1,400 tons sunk by mines or submarines in the last week. Six vessels under 1,000 tons and one fishing vessel also lost, bringing total sinkings to 981 since the weekly report began. Washington says Dennis Sheehan, Seaman, was killed in a boiler tube explosion. Vance I. Perkinson, chief boatswain's mate, was fatally scalded. Sheehan’s father is in Brooklyn.
