Fairfield High school defeated Albia on the college field Saturday in a vigorous game. The team demonstrated superior teamwork and a versatile offense while the defense held firm. Officials led by Mr Berkstresser received praise for enforcing the fast game.
The thirty second annual Old Settlers reunion in Fairfield closed after a successfulCelebration. Mayor James P. Starr welcomed guests and Hon. C. J. Fulton thanked the crowd. Officers elected included Mace Clinkenbeard president and W. H. Sullivan treasurer. A prize drawing awarded several locals and visitors. The parade drew praise though a Snyder & Co float was damaged by a downed telephone wire.
Mrs. John Fry died after being struck by a train at 40th and San Pablo in Oakland California. The Fairfield resident was en route to meet her daughter Nina returning from Phoenix. She leaves husband two children Roy and Nina sister and brother and was active in Hawkeye Rebekah lodge. Funeral plans await announced.
Fourteen young women gathered Saturday at Miss Bertha Gobble’s South Main Street home to honor bride to be Miss Charlotte Ogden. The group hosted a kitchen shower gifting utensils for her new home and enjoyed music and merriment before delicious refreshments closed the evening.
Mrs C P Nelson of this city exhibited Rose Comb White Leghorns at the Missouri Valley Fair in Kansas City. She won eleven ribbons including five firsts and two specials from ten thirds, plus five club badges. The birds then shone at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, taking top honors in cock and cockerel, first pen, second on hen and pullet, and third on cockerel amid strong competition.
The Journal reports C. D. McPherson of Jefferson County won first premiums on Aberdeen Angus and Short Horn cattle at the Royal Stock Show in Kansas City. He entered four carloads of cattle and was noted for having the finest stock on the grounds. While there, he stayed with his old friend John Dudley at 601 Everett Ave.
An advertisement touts Foley's Honey and Tar as rapid relief for fever asthma and summer bronchitis. It claims soothing inflamed air passages in the head throat and bronchial tubes without opiates or harmful drugs and warns against substitutions.

The cases against George F. and John B. Stever and Harry I. Ball were dismissed by Judge Evans in Louisville federal court. They involved cattle sales and the demurrer was sustained. Local friends of the Fairfield men celebrate the end of the litigation.
Mr and Mrs John B Stever marked fifteen years married at their home west of the city. About thirty relatives joined the surprise celebration planned by Mrs Ralph Stever Mrs Louis Van Nostrand and Miss Mary Stever. An autumn decorated home hosted an old fashioned dinner and glad reunion with aunts Mrs Annie B Lewis and Mrs A R Burns of Ottumwa attending.
The Old Settlers Association list honors deceased county pioneers over the past year. Notables include Van B. Rowlson of Locust township died October 17 1909 in Batavia, Mary Hickenbottom McKee died October 20 1909 in Abingdon, and Elizabeth Carson who came to Iowa in 1857. Other deaths: Henry C. Rountree November 7 1909 in Fairfield, Freeman Sackett November 17 1909, Smith Negus December 30 1909 in Red Oak, Henry B. Barrow December 1909, Rachel Kirk November 1 1909, William Carr October 22 1909, James Morse October 20 1909, and Mrs A L Belles October 28 1909. Many were Civil War veterans or long-time settlers.
A. P. Chamberlain of Des Moines along with Judge C. D. Leggett Mayor J. P. Starr and others reviewed the Fairfield Memphis interurban route. He warned that capital is unlikely to flow without local cash and noted tough Iowa laws and railroad opposition. Death notices for multiple Jefferson County residents follow.
The Free Methodist camp meeting will be held next year in Eldon or Ottumwa after the committee on location rejected Fairfield. Eldon offered free grounds and tabernacle with other inducements, while Ottumwa also pursued the event. Fairfield’s organizers argued the Chautauqua grounds would suit best, but August 26, 1911 was a condition.
Drumm of St Marys church addressed questions about Catholic citizenship and allegiance to the Pope during a lecture series. Last night the lecture focused on Hands Across the Centuries with a large crowd engaged and a question box featured for attendees.
