In Rome on November 24 the Italian Army retook Monte Tomba and Monte Persia after a battle described as unexampled in violence. Also on November 24 Admiral Simms reported an American destroyer sinking a German submarine with all hands lost. London dated dispatches note British progress around Cambria with 100 German can none captured.
Rome Nov 24 Italians repelled a major Austro German attempt to encircle Monte Meletta between the Brenta and Piave fronts. Despite heavy bombardment and repeated seizures, Italian forces held positions, launched counterattacks, and halted the enemy with heavy losses. Berlin reports progress for Austro Germans in the same sector. An unrelated note photos Miss Anita W Patton of Los Angeles engaged to Gen John J Pershing.
The U S government recognizes submarines losing effectiveness and lowers war risk insurance on American ships and cargoes entering the war zone from five to four percent due to fewer sinkings by U boats and greater destruction of them as reported by Lloyd George.
James Hamilton Peabody former Colorado governor who led during the Cripple Creek strike era died in Denver at age sixty five after several months of illness. He guided the state during clashes between troops and strikers in 1908.
