W. G. Robinson Sentenced In Embezzlement Case

W G Robinson pleaded guilty to embezzling funds and property of the United Lumber Company while agent at Lock Ridge in December 1909. The court, urged by the company and county officials for leniency due to his family needs, sentenced him to up to five years with parole consideration to follow.

Fairfield High class plans surprise for president on birthday

The 1911 class surprised president Ray Fisher at the presidential mansion on his seventeenth birthday. The group entered quietly, shared games and music, and presented Fisher a signet ring from the class. Later, Ray and others enjoyed light refreshments and left well wishes.

New County Hospital Proposal Passes in Washington County

Washington La Nov 10 Official returns not yet public and board of supervisors to review books next Monday Unofficial counts from precinct judges show the hospital tax proposal carried by 749 votes Washington will be among the first counties in the state to erect a county hospital A seven member board of trustees will be appointed with up to three women and four residents not from the hospital town The trustees will oversee plans bids and construction with elections for hospital trustees at the next general election

Epworth League Holds Notable Thursday Oratorical Contest

The Ep worth League held a Thursday evening oratorical contest in the Library hall. Judges assessed thought and delivery with Roy Curray of Batavia earning top marks and a silver cup. Nellie Kight of Ottumwa placed second earning a pennant, Fred Ward of this city took third despite a football injury, and Lela Linder of Libertyville placed fourth. More contests are likely this winter under the league’s direction.

The Parsons College Junior class stages a four act comedy Miss Hobbs next Tuesday evening at the Orpheum theater. Clinton Triumphs Fairfield In Eastern Iowa Gridiron Clash

Clinton defeats Fairfield 11 to 6 on Alumni field in a hard fought game as Clinton capitalized on a forward pass and a late stand near Fairfield’s end zone. Fairfield captain Yount suffered a strained arm but stayed in, while Parsons College edged Os­kaloosa 11 to 0 with Zeigler's 90 yard kickoff return and two touchdowns.

Lafayette Young has been named junior United States Senator to fill the Iowa vacancy until the legislature meets in January to elect a full term. He is proprietor of the Des Moines Capital and a longtime supporter and adviser to the governor.

Eber Ogden a renowned Jefferson county veteran recovers a Civil War era fife he carried through combat. Present by Dr. C. D. Clarke in 1862 the instrument was lost years ago and found thanks to his son in Portland and grandson in Galesburg. He plans to keep it and donate it to the Jefferson county library upon his death.

The couple will live on South Main street after a wedding supper at the bride’s parents home. She is a Fairfield high school graduate and former bookkeeper for J E Roth & Co. The groom is a popular local. Fay W Biggs and Miss Mae Hafferty were quietly married by Rev Thomas Osborn. The brides are Birmingham natives and Fairfield residents with strong local ties. They will honeymoon briefly in Fairfield before starting housekeeping near Libertyville.

Life of J. R. McCracken Follows Butte Mayor to Death

District court opens with varied civil docket and notices

The November term of the district court convened in this city with Judge M A Roberts presiding for a brief three week term. Five divorce cases and three automobile damage suits are set along with a long list of trial assignments. Grand jury members are named and sworn. the jury and petit jury schedules are detailed.
